A female appearing as a skinhead with the group Antifa faces charges of attacking a police horse while protesting against the “March Against Sharia” activists with ACT for America in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Saturday morning.
The attack unfolded while Harrisburg police and Pennsylvania State Police Troopers on horseback assisted with crowd control as demonstrators made their way from the steps of the capital through the midtown area.

Santa Rosa, CA used to have a mounted unit. The police chief, in an interview, was noting how effective they were in crowd control. He noted that in an unruly crowd, “If you hit an officer, you’re a hero. If you hit a horse, you’re just a jerk.”
I was a teen in 1948 when my dad took me to watch a Communist May Day parade for Henry Wallace in NYC. After the parade was over, the stevedores waded in and started beating up the Reds and then the cops came in, on foot and on horseback. I noticed they were pretty rough with a couple of women and I asked my dad why.
He said that they only hit those with large floppy hats. ???
It seems they wore those big hats to carry large hat pins, which they used to stab the horses. Bad move.
[sidebar] It was a marvel to see how the foot police cut through the crowd, separating them into smaller and smaller groups. The mounted police would come in and use their horses as bulldozers - pivoting the horse’s butt and shoving people off the street.

IIRC, true cavalry or dragoon sabers are too long to be worn on the person and their scabbards are secured to the saddle.
Patton’s Model 1913 saber was an elongated rapier intended solely for thrusting, as he had been a champion fencer.
