I hate to sound like a super Luddite (furry luddite?) but I think the earth was a better place when all had to toil from dawn until dusk just to keep body and soul together for one more day. Now that we have advanced beyond the the human capacity to be strange seems to know no bounds.

It’s because of the culture of oneupmanship. Each generation has to find itself a fresh way to rebel and act out and it has to be stranger than the last generation’s tactics.
