MEBANE – Lidl, a German grocery chain building stores in Eden and Danville, Va., will hold a public hiring event for its state-of-the-art, Alamance County regional headquarters and distribution center next week.

The event will be held from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday, April 20 at Lid’ls newly constructed, $125 million facility, which will become operational later this year. The Lidl Distribution Center is located at 3815 Senator Ralph Scott Parkway, Mebane.

Up to 150 logistics positions will become available at the site this year.

Salaries for logistics associates will be up to $20 per hour, plus benefits, which can include health, dental and vision plans, and a 401(k) retirement plan with a generous company match. Accepted candidates will become integral members of the Lidl logistics team, which will serve as the backbone of the Lidl store network, guaranteeing product availability and the highest levels of freshness and quality.

Walk-ins are welcome at the hiring event, and candidates are encouraged to apply online, and bring resumes to the event. Attire is business casual.

Preferred candidates should possess an astute attention to detail, the ability to work well in a team environment, a solution-oriented attitude, and excellent time management and communication skills.

The number of jobs picking items off shelves and putting them in boxes is far less than the sales jobs and other jobs putting items on store shelves. This is just propaganda for Amazon. Amazon is killing stores by losing money. They are just underselling everybody. And they have no profits. Its taken 20 years, but they are not adding jobs. They are taking them away.

The Obama White House gave Amazon a blank check because they are more green than stores are. Or at least that is their claim. They say that UPS and the mail truck are already delivering to every house. So stores are just a waste of energy and cover the land with useless cement.

I’ve wondered about that. My local Aldi’s is not very good but English people on British food blogs LOVE Lidl’s.

These European grocery chains enter the US market blissfully unaware that it has had savage competition among grocery chains for decades. Every bit of market share is fought over and every scheme to bring in customers has been tried already.

Here is a big list of defunct US grocery stores:
