NY considers ending literacy tests for teachers because too many blacks & Hispanics were failing

New York considers ending literacy tests for prospective public school teachers because too many black and Hispanic applicants were failing

The New York Post reports:

State education officials plan to scrap a literacy exam given to prospective teachers

And why are they doing this? The article continues:

Sources said education officials also were concerned about the disparity between passing rates among white and minority candidates.

In 2013-14, only 48 percent of aspiring black teachers and 56 percent of prospective Hispanic educators passed, compared to 75 percent of white candidates, the website Chalkbeat reported in February.

And there you have it.

The public school bureaucrats think that when it comes to hiring teachers, racial diversity is more important than knowing how to read.

This is what happens when you put idiots in charge.

I am a woman and NEVER benefitted from affirmative action. I made my own way thru college and grad school. I carried a 3.7 to 4.0. all the way. I passed University Calculus with an honorable “B”. also Molecular Biology, Engineering courses, chemistry, you name it. I actually had “career counselors” try to steer my away from these types of courses b/c they were not “female friendly”. Don’t throw me in your bucket along with truly incompetant losers.

A stupid, angry populace yields many rewards for Democrats...the dumbing down of America is NOT an accident.

LOL! They would prefer to have the ignorant "teaching" what they don't know. When taking college classes, I needed an elective and took Children's Literature to be able to have some fun. Lot's of prospective school teachers in the class and still remember this cute little blond doing a story time (actually imported kids to tell stories to) and she had a statement: "And when she looked around the corner, do you know what she seen?"

Made me cringe that she might end up in front of kids - but she would be preferable to 99% of the ones talked about in the article....

Why didn’t you just post the NY Post article?

Because he then couldn't draw a moronically incorrect conclusion. (See my #37) The obvious irony here is that the poster seems to be the one having weak reading skills.

As with all things liberal, when confronted with the untoward impact of unavoidable reality -— simply move the goalposts, or in this example, remove them entirely. (NY Failure Rates = blacks 52%, Hispanics 44% and whites 25%)

“Look For The Union Label” The same union-purchased liberal politicians who insist on herding innocent, unsuspecting children into failing, union-controlled daytime dentition centers are the same liberal politicians who consistently object to school vouchers and educational centers of excellence.

Meanwhile, they send their kids to $40,000 per year private schools -— not unlike Barry and Michelle Obama. This is the gateway to today’s Democrat plantation, which ironically is the same elitist behavior that led to the overthrow of Tsarist Russia by Vladimir Lenin in 1917. But, nothing’s too good for the children of our ruling overlords.

You just answered your own question.

Sadly you are correct. The left obviously doesn't want an educated populace; they want pliable angry militants they can control.

Therefor leftists are at their core extremely evil and ugly inside and out.

My granddaughter has come to despise math. It’s not her strongest subject anyway and she just panics when she has a test. My grandsons,on the other hand, have no problem with it and do just fine. My oldest grandson who finds math very easy thinks Common Core is simply tedious.

Black people were target #1 for the political elite, starting in about the 1950’s. I believe that at that time, their families were still intact and education levels (for those that were able to attend school) were comparable to other groups. The welfare state and various public education “reforms” changed all this. Just to keep things in perspective, the welfare state changes and the ed reforms were brought about by politicians elected by our parents and grandparents. We are all in the cross hairs now.

This is what happens when school ceases to be a means to an education and is transformed into a government jobs program.
>

Only slightly correct. The REAL answer:
“This is what happens when schools cease putting up the facade of a means to an education (see John Dewey) and instead fully embraced as a political\money laundering arm of govt.

These policies make even your admission to school and your grades suspect; in fact, it is no secret that professors no longer fail anyone out of fear of accusations of racism or sexism.

This isn’t my fault; just the way it is as long as that climate exists. I don’t think they’re losers - just suspect until they prove otherwise.
