WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department will try to adopt "responsible policies" for enforcement of federal anti-marijuana laws, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Monday, adding that he believes violence surrounds sales and use of the drug in the U.S.

In a meeting with reporters, Sessions said the department was reviewing an Obama administration Justice Department memo that gave states flexibility in passing marijuana laws.

"Experts are telling me there's more violence around marijuana than one would think," Sessions said....

I don't see the Feds doing much about legal weed. I don't think it is a fight they want.

I truly believe that medical use for it will be approved in all 50 States.

It’s on the way to being recreational in all 50 states.

After about 25 or 30 the feds will finally take it off the Schedule 1 list.

By the end of the 2020’s for sure.

It’s easy to grow and it’s a medicine.

It should be free.

Most leftists in our society are not nearly mature enough to handle this. I won’t stand in the way of freedom, they’d just best not harm my family in any way, shape or form with this crap.

For your interest.

I was wondering what the new Administration would do.

Of course there is more violence around pot then many people think. That is mostly because the growth and distribution of it has become a high risk high return venture controlled by foreign cartels and domestic organized criminals. This is a result of Draconian drug laws for the substance.

They should either repeal the federal laws against marijuana, or enforce it. We in the hinterlands should know what to expect.

The DEA will only deschedule drugs if it can add new things at the same time - if they run out of drugs to war over, it’s hard to justify their budget.

Let’s step back a bit farther- maybe into the original concept of a social compact- as long a those who want to loose their mind and gateway father into oblivion in the name of “liberty’ etc don’t mind those survivors of their anti-social behaviors sticking a bullet into the brains of those who harmed their loved ones...

Why do otherwise seemingly sane and intelligent and responsible folks forget that while they may have the liberty to do some things, they also have a responsibility to not do those things for the sake of others?

Toke away. If tis evolves into a full blown “license” then I hope it is taxed and controlled to the hilt- and all proceeds given to the victims ( not the smokers, tokers and mid night jokers) of these silly and anti-social deeds.

Just my opinion, you see.

In all seriousness, if the AG says hands off marijuana prosecution/debates on a state to state basis and all 50 states go legal for medicinal and recreational what does this do to the war on drugs?

What, we only stop imported pot so we can fund the disastrous war on drugs?

If you’re going to call it a war start killing drug lords, not wait for them to run afoul of their national governments, hopefully arrested and maybe sent here for trial.

I’m so sick of this misnomer “war on”. I don’t criticize Reagan for much but the war on drugs has been worse than the drugs.

Meh. Marijuana isn’t a big deal to the DEA.

It’s all about heroin right now.

The only thing federal enforcement can accomplish is making impossible for states to effectively regulate and tax the business. No state enforcement and at the same time no state regulation, That’s the perfect recipe for a black market,

Funny, you are wrong. I never watched such theatrics, but I did watch several friends go down the road to oblivion and even death. Did a bit of research over the years- MJ is THE gateway drug and a destroyer on its own merit.

If a component of MJ s useful, then it, like opiods etc can be extracted and prescribed or even OTC. Smoking a doobie ain’t medicine, just tom foolery.

I am all for liberty with responsibility- however, when the activity by nature removes the actors’ responsibility context from the equation (as research by so many well respected sources describe consistently), it is violating the social compact- and is as it ought to be- a crime or tort. Alcohol and others notwithstanding.

Now go hide behind a tree in a dark parking lot and buy for an illegal substance (from a trafficker who violates many laws and puts many others at risk of violence-for the love of your money) that can alter your brain chemistry for life, lowers your ability reason and exposes you to several well known dangerous side components- just make sure you don’t harm me or mine.

Blessings.

“All those welfare heifers”

Having grown up in farm country, I take issue with the term “heifer” in reference to female welfare recipients. A heifer is a female bovine who has never given birth.

In this context I prefer the term “brood mare.”
