Trump's “Skinny” Budget Would Increase Hunger, Poverty
Business Wire ^ | February 27, 2017 | Chris Ford, Bread for the World

Posted on 02/27/2017 2:36:18 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Bread for the World warned that the current FY 2018 budget outline drafted by President Donald J. Trump would worsen hunger and poverty in the U.S. and abroad. The cuts to domestic social safety net programs and foreign aid are aimed to boost the Pentagon’s budget by 10 percent.

“President Trump is proposing slashing programs that help hungry and poor people,” said Rev. David Beckmann, president of Bread for the World. “These programs include nutrition assistance in the U.S. and aid to poor and hungry people around the world. This comes when 20 million people are at risk of famine in South Sudan and elsewhere in Africa. Everyone should be alarmed by these cuts.”

According to the Office of Management and Budget, the State Department should expect significant budget cuts. Funding for foreign aid and nutrition and development programs comes from the State Department’s budget. These programs help reduce malnutrition and significantly improve the lives of mothers and children.

In his draft budget outline released today, Trump proposes a 15 percent cut across all non-defense discretionary spending. Selected programs are slated for significantly higher cuts. Currently, the US spends less than 1 cent per dollar on foreign aid, but even this could be cut by 30 percent. The Department of Defense would get a $54 billion boost.

“Last year, we saw the number of people suffering from hunger and poverty in this country fall,” said Beckmann. “Cutting funding anti-poverty programs will increase hunger and poverty. We cannot let poor and hungry people suffer further. Americans need to contact their members of Congress and tell them to stop this madness.”

While an outline of the budget was released today, the full details are slated to be available on March 14.

Nice... My freedom of speech taxed to support the speech of others without my representation.

The foreign aid scam is no different than those divorce courts making usually the man pay without the right to see the children or raise them, with local idiot charity affiliates doing the “classes”.

It is a scam. The globalists take your money and then they gice it to Africans, telling Africans how the administrators/UN and not America are giving... Just like the btch on welfare claiming to her fatherless children that she is the one providing for the children - fck the Trump voting tax payers.

Really. America’s poor are mostly fat. Why should we feed the world’s poor?

Are the expenditures less than last year and will income from taxes and other sources pay for those expenditures? Or is it just more deficit spending that increases our national debt?

We have the fattest and most morbidly obese “hungry” people in “poverty” than anywhere else on earth. Just take a look at any “poor” neighborhood. There are gigantic women towing around a gaggle of kids. They aren’t starving.

Currently, the US spends less than 1 cent per dollar on foreign aid,

I don't even know what this MEANS - 1% of all worldwide dollars that are spent on aid? 1% of the State Department budget? Or is it 1% of our total expenditures ($3.852 trillion), which would be $38.5 billion?

I fear I know which it is...

They have yet to see exactly what will be cut in the budget, but immediately claim it will hurt the poor and minorities. I think the poor will be better off without free cell phones and the ability to buy steaks, lobster and junk food with their food stamps.

Why does the US have to feed everybody in the world?

Because it's mean spirited to expect them to feed themselves - the governments that keep them in poverty need to be taken to task as they also tend to steal a major portion of the "aid'.
