“Then the people get to decide if they want statehood or not

if they decide on statehood, do we have to accept all of their “citizens”, including several million Mexicans? Can you say “instant amnesty”?

I don’t think the secession thing will go too far.

I can imagine Governor Jerri Brown being captured by Federal troops in West Hollywood disguised as a transgender in a dress and wig as he tries to flee.

It would require a 2/3 vote of Congress and a Unanimous Vote of the other 49 States for it to happen, which means it CAN NOT happen. Look up Abraham Lincoln to see what happened when the Slave Holders wanted to secede.

I think a commanding general who would take his national guard against the US military is well beyond recognizing nationalization of his guard.

The people under his command may have a different view. I would expect his (the commander standing with Brown) career to be short and colorful.

Have you looked at the state of California and their coastline? You are correct, they will not be invaded by the Army, that would be a job for the Marines!

Agreed. Just set up the guillotines and get rid of the elites.

The only thing more unlikely than CA seceding is CA being invaded by the US ARMED FORCES.

There is a good chunk of the US military is sitting in California. Are they going to pack up and do the march of shame into Nevada or Arizona or do they fire up the tanks and drive to Sacramento?

“Ridiculous post. Laughable.”

Right. And Brexit would never happen and Trump will never win the Iowa caucuses.

That is just what those folks thought in 1860. The situation degraded rather rapidly. Gee, what could go wrong? All of those California-legal weapons against the rest of the Nation.

The damage is not what the Californians inflict on the US military, it is the damage the leftist media will inflict on Trump while he is quelling the insurrection.

I suspect it is what the left wants, they know California will stay in the US but they want bodies to lay at Trump’s feet with the goal of delegitimizing him, which makes the threat of them leaving greater.

This is truly an existential threat and should be taken seriously.

There is nothing in the US Constitution about secession. Nothing, zip, ziltch.

James Madison thinks otherwise.

LETTER FROM MR. MADISON ON THE RIGHT OF SECESSION.

Madison argues that the ratification of the Constitution was a compact between the states, and as such, each state has equal say in all matters. When one state declares itself to secede unilaterally, it says that its own decision is elevated above all the rest.

Madison then suggests that if a state declares its own desire supreme over the others, then that right extends to all the other states too. That means that if a state has a right to secede from the others, then the others have the right to secede from it. In other words, a body of states has the right to oust a state against its wishes, which is a dangerous precedent.

James Madison to Daniel Webster

I think this is the one that Mark Levin was referring to last week.

The argument here is that when the states ratified the Constitution, that conferred United States citizenship on the citizens of the several states (I thought the Declaration of Independence did that) with all the rights and powers laid out in the Constitution. Once given, a governor or legislature does not have the right to strip its state citizens of their citizenship in the United States.

That’s exactly what the Confederate government thought until Fort Sumter happened. The difference is that prior to the Civil War, there had been a strong militia movement, especially in the South, that enabled the individual Confederates states to muster and field forces fairly quickly. California cannot rely on the National Guard which can be Federalized by Presidential directive.

As for the US Army, some of its most illustrious history involves putting down the first attempt to secede from the Union. I’d say the likelihood of the US Army responding to a presidential order to end an attempted secession by California is actually pretty high.

I think this Nation is headed for a Civil War, like it or not. Leftists are very dangerous. History is full of bloody wars that end in communist rule. It would be prudent to be making plans and alliances.

What bellicosity? That’s called “settling of accounts.” Why should the Calis benefit from American assets if they leave the country?

That range of hills between Livermore and Oakland west of the 680, suggests a natural divide. Lived in Livermore once upon a time, long ago.
