Ramifications of California voting for secession
Myself ^ | 10 February 2017 | MeganC

Posted on 02/10/2017 11:11:01 AM PST by MeganC

There are some people in California currently gathering signatures to get an initiative on the ballot to change the language in California's constitution to allow California to secede from the USA. If it passes the law will also put a question on yet another future ballot asking if Californians want to secede. If the vote is yes then it becomes their declaration of independence.

It might happen. I won't rule it out especially after 2016 in which so many 'impossible' things happened.

So what happens if California votes to secede?

Well, before they vote on independence but after they vote to enable secession I hope that Congress first acts to keep the loyal counties of California within the USA. The precedent is West Virginia being severed from Virginia when Virginia seceded. Congress can create the State of Jefferson and include the counties that want to leave California anyway. I hope they do.

California cannot be allowed to use the US dollar. If they leave they must be immediately cut off from our banking system. Otherwise they will use their access to wage economic mayhem against us and they'll also use the dollar to prop up their economy.

The US will need to think about what to do with Californians who wish to flee to loyal states. We'll also need to think about how to treat those who stay. After what point will we consider Californians to be foreigners?

The US needs to withhold funding for all long-term infrastructure projects in California. Governor Jerry Brown wants the rest of us to pay for his choo-choo train and for his hundred-billion dollar Delta Tunnels project - which will funnel water to disloyal Southern California. I know I don't want Wyoming footing part of the bill for this.

What do we do when California inevitably allies itself with Russia and/or China? Will we allow the Russians and or the Chinese to base ships, planes, and troops in California? Because you know they will.

One thing I think should also be done is to cease the recognition of all academic degrees from California and to remove California educated academics from American schools and universities. Don't let them spread the contamination!

Just starting the discussion and hoping that anyone in California who supports secession will maybe see some of the ideas we all post here and then take a moment to consider the potential downsides of their independence.

IMO, civil war. There’s no way we give up California.

This.

It’s fun to speculate, but then, it’s fun to speculate on what would happen if space aliens attack.

I could see a left wing “independence” insurgency start in Ca and it financed and “protected” by Silicon Valley & Hollyweird ultra-leftists. Maybe even with a little “wink wink” support of the state government.

California governing bodies (State, many cities, etc.) have proven themselves COMPLETELY capable. I’m highly confident the new nation will demonstrate sound financial management, effectiveness in managing borders and public safety. There’s absolutely NOTHING to worry about.

And with that comment, I’ve reached my sarcasm quota early today. Think I’ll take the rest of the day off.

Give them to Mexico, extend the wall and make them stop using the dollar and refuse any trade deals with them. They lose the National Guard, military bases and a lot more.

They fold after the first week and beg to be reinstated.

I would also declare that all Federal Property in the new country remains sovereign US territory.

How about we let them secede. Then declare war against them, invade them and capture them. Treat all of the liberals as enemies, and deport them. They would no longer be American citizens, so we wouldn't have to strip them of their citizenship. 8>) Then rebuild California as a conservative state with a new constitution that prohibited liberals to reside there. Win, win, win, win, win!!!!!

Of course I am being sarcastic to a point, but not entirely.

You left one thing out.

They will need to raise a formidable army, navy, and air force and quick because the Federal government is not going to lose 3/4s of the nation’s western coast without a real, no kidding gunfight.

Giving them a whiff of grape will probably be enough.

Maybe this time we will have the good sense to actually hang the secessionist leadership after defeating them.

Huge issue is the US military bases which will still be needed for the USA. An “embassy” has already been opened in Moscow. There is no way that USA could afford to allow China or Russia to establish a “beach head” in California.

Also, it is my understanding as part of the movement, it will automatically put itself under the UN. We know that China already has “former” members of it’s military working at various places.

After the Joint exercises for the supposed purpose of disaster training, (grid down IIRC) I suspect that we already have Russian special forces here. There have been several antidotal reports that shipments of AK-47s have been unloaded and stored at an area close to Fort Carson.

As much as I would like to get rid of the California far left moon bats, I’m thinking that the land of California is too valuable not just for the military, but also for the produce and foods that can be grown.

Also, no more welfare or Medicaid benefits. And what about Social Security and Medicare. How would that be handled?

I do think that it should be split into 2 states. Make sure to put the military bases, best farmlands, and blue counties into the state of Jefferson. Leave San Fran and Berkley and red counties together - maybe even build a wall to keep them contained in their own little universe.

That part makes a lot of sense but it also opens the door to an eventual confrontation just like what happened at Fort Sumter.

California will not secede. It is insolvent and too dependent upon federal funds. This is just a bunch of liberal loons engaging in mental masturbation and making empty threats.

JMHO.

” After what point will we consider Californians to be foreigners?”

Ha. At least half of California hit that point years ago.

The State of Jefferson would have nearly all the water and timber.

would love to see Moonbeam try to negotiate a trade deal with them and/or the rest of the US should they secede.
