My Wife Won't Talk To Me

Though it’s often a complaint we hear from a wife that her husband won’t talk, we often receive a request for help from a husband who says, “My wife won’t talk to me.”

It’s all over the realm of possibilities in terms of what this means. Sometimes the husband means that his wife won’t talk to him other than small talk.

In other words, the two don’t seem to “have much to talk about” as people say.

Nothing To Talk About?

This is a typical complaint from a spouse or an agreeing couple. We’ve been largely taught to believe that if we aren’t in constant conversation and dialogue with our spouse that something is terribly wrong. That we aren’t close enough or that the person not talking doesn’t care enough about us or that our marriage is broken in some other way. Nonsense.

I always thought to just sit quite with some one and be comfy just being around each other was enough.

Same ole womens crap like all the rest they get from TV and magazines telling them they stink,are constipated,dont matter,DESERVE this and DESERVE that (my favorite) and the list goes on.And now need to constantly be verbally reinforced.

After several minutes of this and not being allowed to say anything back as the rules of the counselor specified, my friend got up and announced that he was going outside for a smoke and to let him know when his wife got up to anything in the last year or two.

I have to institute quiet time when we do car travel...otherwise my husband talks and talks and talks....course I’m pretty quiet for a female.

EXACTLY...don’t get married. Great advice, unless you plan on having children and establishing a family.

After divorce, and children grown up and gone away, who really needs a live in woman? A man is better off alone with friends whether male or female. I assume the same is true of females.

My husband and I have a joke that we use to dispel tension. One of us will say something a bit insensitive and the other will respond with “and that’s why I shot her/him, Your Honour”.

Then we both laugh.

I find as the years of marriage pile up and two individuals grow closer and closer together that verbal communication loses much of its importance. It is as if two people learn to communicate symbiotically, using much more subtle forms to convey their thoughts and feelings. No relationship, however, remains smooth all the time and it is not hard to feel the tension when the normal balance is disrupted by some disagreement. Fortunately, these situations do not last long because both partners abhor the unease brought on by the conflict and will then communicate in every way known to man to return as quickly as possible to the harmonious centricity they together have found so comforting.
