Here's a primer on shotgun chokes, Good stuff for the beginner or if it's been a while.
Janis Putelis from the MeatEater crew presents a couple of short videos here, where he talks about the various shotgun chokes and patterning your scattergun.
For the newbie, a shotgun choke purpose is to shape the spread of the shot in order to gain better range and accuracy. Chokes are implemented as either screw-in chokes, selected for particular applications, or as fixed, permanent chokes, integral to the shotgun barrel. See the rest of the shotgun article and video here.
I have the turkey choke on one shotgun. Big handicap for normal range duck hunting. I was on a small hill and flushed some ducks from a pond a long way below. I saw the pattern hit the water next to where the duck was flying and it was still very tight. Think I might get a variable screw in choke. I know they do not have as well formed pattern as set chokes but the flexibility will make up for that. I have used them before.
Be careful, liberals may want to make choking a shotgun illegal.
A goose ground sluicer:)
Not too many hits on your post. I did find that Gator Spreader interesting and I do enjoy the Meat Eater series.
You could ask the moderators to change the title a little. Perhaps add what is Trumps favorite choke or Nancy Pelosi disagrees on patterns
I like the screw in chokes for the 870 pump. Turkey extra full for... turkeys, rifled tube keeps slugs on a paper plate at 80-100 yards, full for long birds and modified for clays and closer game. Endless different loads add to the versatility.
It would make a good “only gun”.
