IT looks like it is a selective fire rifle - which is, in fact, an assault rifle.

The term was invented by the German Army - sturmgewehr.

Hoplophobes may call the semi-automatic civilian version an ‘assault weapon’ which is a made-up term for firearms they don’t like.

Yes, assault weapon is what I had in mind when posting my complaint about the above article.
