I have a Roku 3 hooked up side by side with current Direct TV

The only thing we watch on Direct TV are:

1. football (hubs is a big NFL fan)

2. news (Fox New and Fox Business News)

3. very seldom local channels (would be Rochester NY or Syracuse NY)

4. some fluff (but most of the fluff we watch is available on Netflix and Amazon Prime or at the library)

I got the FBN channel but hubs doesn't like the fact that it is prerecorded sound bites. He likes live streaming.

Any thoughts? Ideas?

Plan on stocking the snacksums.

You will get sucked into binge watching and will lose a couple of months of “spare” time for home projects, etc.

Good news is that you will gradually learn to pritorize, but there is nothing like binge watching of shows like “24” .

Go and check out on the web Sony Playstation Vue.com I cut the cord last week!!!!! It has all of my favorite cable channels for 45.99. And it is live TV....you cannot tell the difference from Direct TV!! All you have to do is download the sonyplaystationvue App on your Roku, go online and pick out you lineup and activate the tv online......boom! Done. Good Luck!

I think Amazon Fire is far superior to Roku .....especially if you are an Amazon Prime member.....it then adds a huge free movie and TV library....plus free books for your tablet...

Alexa is a very intuitive and easy to use voice app on the remote....press a button and state the title, actor or phrase and it will find the show...

Do this:

1) Replace the Roku with Amazon Fire TV (not the Firestick).

2) Subscribe to Playstation Vue.

3) Install KODI from tvaddons.ag

Oh and I got the Roku 3 b/c of it’s Youtube app. Which really stinks. So instead I do screen mirroring from my Samsung Note 5. Instead access to ALL youtube content!

1) Get an indoor Digital Antenna for your local channels. I have one and can see most NFL games.

2) Make sure your Internet Connection is plugged in and it’s at minimum 50mb. You can get by with 25, but 50mb makes it enjoyable and quick. Don’t connect by WIFI too.

3) Fox Business should have an App for your Roku III

4) If you know anyone that has a Direct TV or local cable subscription, then offer to create a Netflix streaming login for them. Legally Netflix and Direct TV will allow you to share up to 4 separate people on your account. They do not have to be family. Just give them a user name and password to use. That way you can save on paying on alacarte Apps like HBO. You just log in.

5) You may want to upgrade to a 4K TV right now. They are SUPER CHEAP right now before the 2017 TVs come in. I have a 2015 Sony 4K 49”. The picture is beautiful! Sony, Samsung or L.G. tend to be the best. I think Sony is number 1 IMO.

Finally, make sure the Fox News and Fox Business App works well before you cut the cord.

We live in the sticks & use an old timey antenna. Too cheap
to buy into all this satellite stuff. Also, we get enough
channels (& more than enough). Too much tv tires my eyes.

I do have a pair of blue-filtering computer glasses that
I wear to watch tv. They’re cheap on ebay and really help.

I could have written your post since I have the same setup and make pretty much the same viewing choices that you have.

But you forgot to add “Gold Rush” to your list. Best Reality show on TV but definitely for guys.. That's about the only thing I watch except Fox News, NFL, Steph Curry and an occasional Sunday Talk Show.

And I do love my Roku. I have a 3 and a 4.

We’ve ROKU here and until it was shared at FR, we were happy to get FNC on the X-TV private network ROKU offers at no charge

After the large inflow of viewers X tv has not been the best and their programmers are working on the glitches.
If and when X-TV eliminates the little critters in the system, this platform should offer everything you desire in your viewing capabilities.

I am curious about this as I am tiring of Direct TV also. Pay for 300 channels to get the 10 or 15 I want.
I know Netflix, Hula and Amazon are streaming. Are VUE and the others also streaming? Any real time? Is there any kind of TV guide? How about recording for watching later and for zapping the commercials(my favorite feature)?
Any thoughts or guidance appreciated.

I’ve signed up for direct TV Now....a streaming service.....it’s excellent!

$35/mo and 60 channels including Fox News....HBO and Cinemax are only an additional $5/mo each if you want it....

You need to have Amazon Fire I think.....

I have the same situation as you right down to the Syracuse/Rochester air channels. Right now I'm watching the game on Syracuse channel 5-1. I have Netflix, Sling, and KlowdTv. Directv tried to raise my bill back to over $100 after giving me a $30 discount for a year. No thanks. I no longer wish to pay for ESPN due to their horrible politics. I'm glad I cut the cord and.im never going back.

Plex on the Roku is incredible. SS-Plex, an app inside the Plex app, has endless tv shows and movies. All streamed free.
