I turned modem off and waited, and then on again.

That appeared to fix whatever it was.

I should be ashamed to bother people with this - but at the same time, through years of crappy and weird internet, I never had a situation where only Free Republic worked, and nothing else!

That appeared to fix whatever it was.

We have had to reset our cable modem on numerous occasions. We are in an outlying area near the foothills; we feel very lucky to have internet access at all. But we have high winds and frequent power outages especially in the winter. We have had to go on generator power a couple of times in the last month. Things get glitched.
