>>>Kind of bulky though, compared to a semi-auto<<<
Well, Kim Kardashian is kind of bulky but she is kind of pretty too. LOL
A .357 is the sweet spot in the handgun world. Semi’s have their place but for power and fun there is no other.
>>>If you cant decide, then you should own at least one of each<<<
That’s why God gave us two hands. #;^)
Get both, practice a lot; hope you never have to use either.
Deeper holes beat all.
Sorry, but that is just not the case. Can’t make a hole of any kind if you aren’t carrying (Rule #1) and you can’t make a hole of any kind if you can’t hit accurately (Rule #1)
One can argue that a .44 mag or .454 or some other hand cannon will put a really deep hole in a person. The down side is that most humans are only 8 to 9 inches “thick” unless shot from the side. More than in penetration threatens over penetration and looses value. ESPECIALLY if you cant:
- carry because it is too big, too heavy, dont have a holster, etc
- operate the firearm (load, clear, fire, reload, remove a jam, etc)
- cant accurately shoot either the initial shot or the follow on shot.
A .22 that hits is worth a LOT more than the .44 mag that misses.
Couldn’t agree with you more. Quick, accurate fire, and more bullets for the win in a life or death situation. If I’m having fun at the range shooting bowling pins, that’s a different matter.
That said, I received a Smith 29 recently, and I'm still working on the script. Before you shoot somebody you gotta say, "I know what you're thinking. Did he fire six shots or only five? Well, in all the excitement I kinda forgot myself. But being as how this is a .44 magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world...oh, wait, that isn't true anymore, but it's one of the most powerful...well, that sort of depends on the load, but it can be one of the most powerful handguns in the world with the right ammo and can blow your head clean off...well, I mean, not really all the way off but pretty near..." By the time you're through the disclaimer the guy has crawled away.
I can think of few faster ways to die than pulling a 32acp in a gun fight.
Field tests show a heavy jacket can block a 32acp.
Your data is wrong.
Get the best of both worlds. Go Coonan Classic:

I have a Mark II that is mostly unused for obvious reasons.
Desert Eagle 357 is bigger than a 1911. No way I packing that every day unless you are paying me.
Have carried 1911s and a Browning Hi-Power. My best and current warm and fuzzy is a Dan Wesson .357 with the snubby barrel and small grip.
Every day.
There’s something screwy about the .32 (both .32 Long and .32 ACP) I think it may be the # of people shot - 25. Common sense says it isn’t the killer round that the stats are showing. I wonder what it would be if the # of people shot was 150.
For later.

Later I was GIVEN a .32 because I certainly would have bought one. I went out to the country to shoot it and stood about 20 ft from a light pole. I hit the pole about 3 out of 5 shots and all that hit were stuck on the surface of the wood. It's possible that I hit the pole more and the lead fell off the pole. I would rather have a .22lr than a .32 or .25. A .380 is the least I would carry for self protection.
I agree that a hole of any size beats no hole, but a .32 needs to be within 5 ft and I'm not sure the guy would be knocked back with 3-4 shots.
Your mileage may vary, but I just had a bad history with .32. If you were going to carry for self protection, a cheap .380 is no more money than a .32. I would even have to weigh a .32 if it were free. Why carry anything? A sharp stick might be better.
not a very good test..
should have both guns clamped on a table at the same time where the bullet paths make a triangle with the top cut off and hit the same target in two places.
insure that the head of the bullet is the same width
the BEST Target for them would be three reams of paper in the package...
then you count the pages that are pierced as each page is the same thickness, no grain, and three reams is enough to stop bullets.. (but not arrows, which have greater penetration than a 30.06)
if they use the reams of paper, they have a match for every test they do, and its a cheap test too... but much better
Richard Donner was never known for his gun literacy.
He’s a rabid gun grabber.
Exactly correct. I have my Sig 938 loaded with Barnes Tac XPD in my front pants pocket, Condition 1.
It’s all the ammo now. .380 with the right rounds is more than enough to stop the fight. “Lucky Gunner” has posted a large file of a very well-conducted ammo tests. It stresses the points of penetration, expansion, wound cavity and avoiding over-penetration. It covers .380, 9mm, .40 and .45.
Very interesting data, complete with slo-mo wound cavity video. Remember, any round that leaves the body is wasting energy.
.45 is great, but generally too large for EASY concealed carry, and more than we need.
To me, .357 was and is highly overrated. It is nothing more than a .38 Special on steroids, almost guaranteed to over-penetrate and hit the little old lady coming out of early Mass 2 blocks away.
