I put on 10+ pounds after quitting cigarettes. Several years ago went low carb and dropped that and ten more in under four months. Never did a pushup or a lap. I've gained ten back tho' because I'm weak. Not having something, like bread, makes it seem all the more dear.

It's stuff like this that makes me ambivalent about soda taxes. The intrusion is distasteful but, the looming health crisis engendered by massive sucrose intake is scary too. I'd rather see the government make a place at the table for the LCHF point of view and present the data dispassionately. That'll be an uphill battle with all the entrenched opposing interests.

Happy to read of others' successes with this approach. Perhaps the Trump administration will be more amenable to popularizing low carb eating.

What you need to understand is that the carb intake causes something like a sine-wave reaction in your blood glucose levels, whereas the high fat intake is a flat-line thing (no spiking).

Not a medical professional - this is just how I understand it.

Do some research using that as a starting point.

My understanding is that the long-term bodily damage comes from the sine-wave thingee, and insulin resistance which comes from the spiking and bottoming of blood glucose levels.

Low carb eating is getting much easier. Take unsweetened tea in a bottle. I had a very hard time finding it anywhere. The tea company said nobody would buy it. But I started to find it in the grocery 5 years ago. I had to go to certain stores as others did not stock it at all. But now its not only in every grocery store, I now find it in gas stations, fast food places, hotels, and movie theaters. Its really almost everywhere sugar drinks exist.

The same is true for grilled chicken. Almost every fast food place has it even if its not on the menu. When I walk into a KFC I ask for it if its not on the menu. So far they have always had it. Besides low carb, its gluten free, and good for diabetics, so most fast food places have it.

Bread is the trick. And breads close family, chips and crackers, that cause a bit of an issue. I wish there was a low carb alternative. Some places will give you a hamburger on a lettuce leaf but thats a mess. Someone should invent a better option.

My wife uses sliced cucumbers instead of crackers. I am not a fan of cucumbers so I eat my cheese without a cracker. And my cousin will order an egg Mcmuffin and eat just the insides. I actually take off the top muffin part without the cheese and eat the rest. Yes its a half English muffin, but I don’t have them very often and I don’t cheat anywhere else.
