President-elect Donald Trump says hes going to work something out with regard to Dreamers, the undocumented young people he promised for his entire campaign to strip of work authorization and protections.
What does that mean, exactly? There were no clues in an interview with Time magazine for its Person of the Year coverage, published Wednesday.
I want Dreamers for our children also, Trump told Time. Were going to work something out. On a humanitarian basis its a very tough situation. Were going to work something out thats going to make people happy and proud. But thats a very tough situation.
The magazine notes that the president-elect did not back away from a vow to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which President Barack Obama started in 2012 to grant work permits and temporary reprieve to certain young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. That plan ― and the fact that as president, Trump could have access to the names and addresses of current DACA recipients ― has caused terror within the undocumented community. Thus far, more than 740,000 Dreamers have received DACA....

Hopefully that “something” involves deportation.
Trump MUST rescind the illegal executive orders of Obama and restore the rule of law.
Obama’s “dreamer” designation is a perversion of the word.
I sure hope that deportation is the only thing that will be “worked out”. Those who VOLUNTARILY SELF-DEPORT will be eligible to apply to emigrate to the US (just as foreigners who NEVER CAME HERE ILLEGALY can apply) following normal legalities. Those who don’t come forth voluntarily and are deported will be PERMANENTLY BARRED from entering the US.
Hmmm, huffpo never needed specifics like this from the current admin............weird.
The DREAM Act is NOT an Act, it never passed Congress.
Obama had no authority to legalize illegal aliens nor to shield them from the law which requires they return to their own country and apply like everybody who is an actual immigrant.
Illegal aliens deserve no accommodation, changing laws to suit those breaking them is always bad policy.
The 1986 amnesty resulted in 10 times the number of illegal aliens.
How about a pill to wake them up?
During the campaign, Trump put forward his priorities and, implicitly, on what he might be willing to trade in order to get the problem of immigration fixed.
Donald Trump’s entire life has been one of a deal maker. Somethings are win-win. Some other things involve some give and take. Trump is not a arrogant sash*le like the person he’s replacing who think he can do an end-run around Congress and the American people. This is, in part, because he is confident that he can strike a good bargain.
BTW It’s not just Democrats with who Trump has to deal. It’s also with the establishment Republicans.
The Huffington Post didn’t ‘get’ Trump.
They didn’t ‘get’ his followers.
They have no clue what ‘the swamp’ is...
And they damn sure don’t ‘get’ his defense of the border.
Why waste our time with this garbage?
It won’t. I’ve given up on all of them. Sheesh that didn’t take long. He’ll say he’s deporting the criminals and that will be that. It seems no one has the guts to get rid of the illegals.
Yeah I’m bitter. I don’t trust anyone. I had hope but everyday my hope just gets crushed a little more.
They can apply for citizenship and take the test. They aren’t criminals like their parents but they shouldn’t get an EZ Pass
Kate Steinle couldn’t be reached for comment.
Only option is deport them! Anything less is amnesty. Or, maybe amnesty for the kid so long as the parents and family are turned in and are deported. That’d be fine as well.
The same could be said for Time, Newsweek, the Washington Post, the New York Times, CBS, ABC, CNN, MSNBC, the Nation, the Los Angeles Times, the Guardian, the Miami Herald, USN&WR, and a thousand other sources. Why single out HuffingtonPuffington?
They have no business or right to be here.
“Hey, kid, here’s a one-way bus ticket to Mexico City, and a coupon for a couple days’ worth of food and water. You can apply for immigration to the U.S. at any of our consulates. Buh, bye.”
Hopefully it involves dreaming in their country of origin.
Pack ‘em in CONEX, and ship ‘em to Puerto Chiapas.
Assume this count includes the thousands of “minors” that invaded the border in swarms these past couple of years. We should work out free passage back to their home and tell them to apply like everyone else.
And, I sure hope Trump changes the criteria for people we agree can come into the US. They must be free of disease, educated, speak the language, no criminal past, and pass necessary tests that show they want to adapt American culture and become Americans.
