President-elect Donald Trump is considering Goldman Sachs President Gary Cohn for a senior administration job, possibly as director of the Office of Management and Budget, several sources close to the situation said on Wednesday.
People familiar with the matter say Cohn's meeting with Trump on Tuesday included talks about a potential job in the new administration, possibly to run OMB, a sprawling office that will handle much of Trump's budget policy after he takes office in January.
Cohn, who is friendly with Republicans and Democrats in Washington, is a longtime commodities trader who became Goldman's president and co-chief operating officer in 2006. He has long been the heir apparent to Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein. But with Blankfein showing no inclination to leave after battling cancer, Cohn may be looking to take on a new challenge. He is friendly with Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
Cohn would add yet another Goldman name to a roster already filled with former executives from the influential bank, including Treasury pick Steven Mnuchin and incoming top White House adviser Steve Bannon.
People close to Cohn, an aggressive and imposing trading veteran, note that he has a reputation for attracting and managing top talent, a key attribute for any OMB chief.
Cohn — a registered Democrat — has made financial contributions to both parties, but in recent years, his political donations have trended toward Republicans. In 2015, he gave $33,400 to the National Republican Congressional Committee, $5,400 to Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and $5,000 to House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy's (R-Calif.) PAC. But he's also contributed to Sen. Gary Peters (D-Mich.), Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and former Sen. Kay Hagan (D-N.C.).

I hate to reveal a possible Trump secret. Machiavelli told how a state leader would invite his opponent/enemy to a big feast. That is how state powers do things, invite your enemy over as a conciliatory gesture.
When your opponents are stuffed with food and drink, when they are sitting there happy, the King leader's guards would rush into the robust feast, with swords, and start chopping away until his opponents are either gone or weakened.
You lay persons are learning how things are done.
Wait to find out later what the more modern civil equivalent to a chopping party is. :-)

I agree. I supported Trump in the primary, but I didn’t like the attacks on Ted and Heidi for GS. If you can’t self-fund your campaign, then you will need contributions from companies like GS.
I dogged them but I will own it. He is highly connected through his campaign manager....but I am not going to turn around now and pretend that GS is a bunch of altruistic do gooders
Trump is a hugely successful businessman who can access business icons with a phone call...something that Obama never had access to unless he promised something in return. Obama is a political whore...Trump is a man of power in his own light...

I’m not going to pretend to know if these top level business people choices are not good, good, or great but I do know hiring professors who teach a subject but never actually worked in the field to claw their way up the ladder is never a good idea. Give me a hands on person any day for the job that needs doing.
I would caution this Administration to have a separate non partisan watchdog group of people watching though for two reasons. One to get a heads up if someone is working for their “previous” company much like hrc used her position to benefit their foundation which benefited them. Two; if anyone says there’s corruption you can show them proof provided by this group there isn’t.
A rising tide lifts all boats and I don’t begrudge business people who also benefit but not at the expense of others - if that’s at all clear.

Trump’s inner circle, mostly, consists of rich people (politically republican or democrat). They are the ones to whom he is offering govt positions. Though he definitely wants to be seen doing things differently, like use youtube to make announcements. Some merits for doing so.
But, I don’t think Trump is too analytical about his ‘policies’ & decisions - he is more the big picture CEO; a good negotiator and a very good marketer (public engagement) so far.
We’ll know more about Trump’s ‘policies’ about a year after Jan 20. I do think he will be *unofficially* very much influenced by certain members of his immediate family, and Pence for managing things more on an official micro level.
