Uh oh: Trump wants flag burners jailed, stripped of citizenship

I'll be sure to let all the Christian bakeries know that the left once again gives a crap about the First Amendment. I'm sure they'll consider that to be very exciting news

It’s a bad idea. It’s also an unconstitutional idea. Finally, it’s an impossible idea. Maybe that’s why Trump tweeted it. Given his cabinet choices and his early policy priorities, Trump is shaping up like a guy who governs as a fairly mainstream conservative but thunders rhetorically like the populist who proved everyone wrong and won the presidency.

No, you can’t jail flag-burners. But if you’d like to tweet that you wish you could, you’re welcome to that:

Trump was trolling.

Then-Senator Hillary Clinton sponsored legislation to do just that in 2005.

Yes, it’s unconstitutional, but we’ve had a lot of that the last 8 years...

Might again be hinting, by means of this outrageous proposal (even Antonin Scalia, R.I.P., opposed such a thing) that if the First Amendment is for the goose, by George it is for the gander too.

It’s at least nice to Hear it from the future Commander in Chief compared to the Current Dilbert Dumb Butt in the White House...

I’m hoping this is the ultimate point. Scott Adams has also intimated such a thing. These outrageous proposals are part of Trump’s “art of the deal.” They get the other party thinking about generic issues.

‘Trump was trolling.’

Why, given Hillary’s history on the subject, is this so hard to understand? I’ve seen some hilarious cartoons about it. In one, Trump’s sitting in front of his notebook, with Kellyanne leaning over his desk. Trump says, “Watch this. I hit, ‘Tweet,’ and control the news cycle for the next 24 hours.”

Make an outrageous proposal first, then after the hide of the opponent has been sufficiently chapped, soften the proposal as a counteroffer to what they have to offer.

So far, the other side is not offering much of anything they are willing to give up. But they are over there being so angried up and outraged they are likely to concede and not even challenge a lot of other seemingly much less important items on the agenda, only to turn around and find themselves checkmated and painted into a corner.

The Donald plays the chess game in three dimensions, and they are still playing tiddlywinks. And missing the cup every time.

Well, I want a lot of things but that doesn’t make them happen. Sometimes I wish it could be so simple....

Well in this case, I am not sure Donald even wants any form of this. He might go for making it more respectable to salute and honor the flag, but banning the burning by miserable people (as long as they do it to their own flag, not somebody else’s)... I don’t think that’s the end goal.

I wouldn’t even make the pledge mandatory in schools... I would have the National Anthem, and perhaps the State anthem, play while the flags are raised before the class and the class listens respectfully. All America is insisting on is respect. Adulation is earned. That’s something the Castro regime would enforce. We don’t.

It really is. Scott Adams comment on it was,

“Apparently there’s no limit to how many times Trump can pull this same trick and get away with it. Funniest president ever.”

One needs a sharp sarcasm/irony filter on some of the Donald’s proclamations. He can’t overuse this, or nobody would take him seriously, ever. But if it’s outrageous, and there’s a point to being outrageous, then it can be to the good.

And anyhow he isn’t even the sworn president yet. He’s still talking as president-elect. As a sworn president, he’d be more serious, I expect. He might then preface these outrageous proposals with “suppose.”

The lefties’ hair is already on fire! All he has to do is fan the flames every now and then. Maybe they will eventually get a clue and reach for the fire extinguisher.

He said he would like it - I would like it too - he won't try to institute it any more than those of us who understand the deal would.

He sure did get their panties wedged up a bit tighter though - imagine someone who thinks the flag that represents the Nation should get respect - especially the "Won" in the election.
