Jeb Bush asks new Republican administration to flex its muscles with a constitutional convention

In an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush makes the case that the incoming Republican administration should set the agenda by calling for a constitutional convention to establish term limits, a balanced budget amendment and restrictions on the Commerce Clause.

Bush asserts that the 2016 election was largely a protest vote over the growth and power of the central government and that Republicans have a rare chance to shift some of that power back to the states.

Bush wrote:

But here’s something we shouldn’t forget: This election was more about voting against something than voting for something. Americans voted against the “establishment,” against the country’s changing culture, against a dysfunctional Washington, against the privileged,

Jeb Bush has been such a tediously privileged poopy-pants for the past year that I never want to hear another word from him again, regardless of whether he’s right or wrong. Just shut up and go away, Jeb.

Stopped-clock, and all that... Frankly an Article V convention is a good idea. Trump should probably push for it. It might not happen, bUT a big-idea like that is a cudgel he can beat the liberals over the head with.

I don’t necessarily disagree with the concept. But the fact that the likes of Jeb! is bringing it up makes me think:

the last thing we want is a constitutional convention. it would be used to give the globalists and the left everything they have been trying to get. it has been the constitution that has saved us from the stupidity of these politicians...

and an obligatory go away Jeb we are done with the bush family.

What is the likelihood of them pushing to get rid of the electoral college?

Screw you Jeb Bush and your whole family too.

Those are my issues but I’ll be damned if I ever let you into my thoughts and actions about them. You’re not welcome, ever.

And I didn’t vote ‘against’ anything. I voted ‘for’ love of the America I know.

So scat! Go find yourself some ‘Liberty Medal’ to present to your ‘good friend’ that you admire so much, Hillary Clinton, and stay the hell out of my life!

Nothing except Jeb Bush is now for it, which means there is always another motive when a Rino jumps in to something that made sense to us a long time ago. A bit too late for me to feel comfortable that he and his globalist elk aren’t plotting something.

There’s about a thousand things ahead of this on the list of ‘most important’ to deal with... But who knows, maybe 6 years into office Trump can look at this... or not...

Other than the fact that it would be a complete waste of time and an opportunity for all sorts of mischief?

An amendment by convention would require a 2/3rds majority of the convention to send the amendment to the states. At least 2/3rds of the states would have to approve. Only seventeen states would have to vote against to prevent passage. Hillary carried 18 states. Liberals love the fact that there are no term limits, that they do not have to balance the budget, and do not wish to limit the Commerce Clause.

Actually I agree with Jeb re term limits, etc. My question is why is he proposing this? I don’t recall him making these points during the primaries, though perhaps I have simply forgotten. Is there a plan for him to run again?
