Every political or sociological writer wants some level of fame. They usually wish to become the next Nostrodamus, Jeanne Dixon, or at very least a poor man’s Jimmy the Greek.

Agreed. Talking about unknown uncertain future is a perfect way to insert your political bias. They are trying to shape what will happen. In addition, there is a psychological component: writing a column is their way of praying hard, hoping that their wish will come true.

Most of us here on FR made predictions on how the election would turn out. None of us were paid for our predictions here but a lot of us did quite well. From my perspective I could see 3 possibilities narrow wins by either candidate and a landslide by Trump. What actually happened was a comfortable win by Trump in the electoral college and a loss in the popular vote. None of what I saw might happen did.
