It keeps being said that US intel says Wikileaks is from Russian hackers. The article at https://www.threatconnect.com/blog/does-a-bear-leak-in-the-woods/ gives some of the "evidence". I know nothing about this, but if some Freepers with knowledge could weigh in on the validity of this assessment I would appreciate it.

Please use language appropriate for a computer idiot. =)

If we can somehow tell the country of origin of the hacking on Wikileaks—way after the facts and without the wikileaks computer, why can’t they figure out if Hillary was hacked?

Secondly, if she is so sure Podesta was hacked by Russian intelligence, why does she think hers wasn’t hacked? How can she defend the private server which had less protection than gmail?

Those were lines that Trump should have used when she brought up Putin and Podesta emails.

I was thinking of the Wikileaks emails — such as the ones of Podesta’s personal email account — but the NSA ones may well be stolen as well.

Check this out. Pagliano sending an email test to Hillary, but she says she can’t check it on her Blackberry becaused Jon Davidson has it.

http://www.judicialwatch.org/document-archive/jw-v-state-clinton-pagliano-emails-01441-pg-10-12/

*** In a Congressional hearing, Representative Jason Chaffetz (R) asks Comey, “So there are hundreds of classified documents on [Clinton’s private] servers, how many people without a security clearance had access to that server?”

Comey replies, “I don’t know the exact number as I sit here, it’s probably more than two, less than ten.” He also says, “Yes, there’s no doubt that uncleared people had access to the server because even after [Bryan] Pagliano there were others who maintained the server who were private sector folks.” [This is a likely reference to Justin Cooper and possibly others, such as Oscar Flores, Jon Davidson, and Doug Band.]

If Podestra’s emails were grabbed using an open WiFi connection on am Amtrak train, wouldn’t the perp have to be sitting on the same train running a promiscuous packet tracer?

Somehow I don’t think Amtrak has a line that goes to Russia.

Would the NSA have to do it in real time or could they do it after the communication was already sent?

If all you’re looking for is a plausibility argument that “it’s the Russians” they could leave artifacts at any time up until the forensic examiners actually investigate. This is not different from the cover-up for any other kind of crime. However, like any attempt to hide or change evidence, it works much better and there is far less likelihood of error if you do it while the crime is being committed.
