Taking ibuprofen could raise heart risk by a fifth

Ibuprofen and other painkillers may trigger a heart condition which affects almost a million Britons, a major study has shown. Patients who regularly take the pills are up to 20 per cent more likely to develop heart failure. Long-term use of the medication causes chemical reactions in the body which place extra strain on the heart, research suggests. This can lead to heart failure in patients who have a history of previous heart attacks or high blood pressure. An estimated 900,000 adults in Britain have heart failure which occurs when the muscle becomes too weak to pump blood around the body.

It causes extreme tiredness, breathlessness and swelling of the legs and is a long-term condition that can’t be cured.

It causes extreme tiredness, breathlessness and swelling of the legs and is a long-term condition that can’t be cured.

It causes low magnesium. Mg supplements take care of it, especially transdermal magnesium.

You’ll kill your liver, but your heart will be fine.

Probably all NSAIDs do.

Take it twice a day. I wondered why the doctor at my last check up winced when I told him. Back to aspirin I guess.

I’m sure it’s harder on a person than a plant that has been used for thousands of years.

But no, too many know betters use the DEA as a source. Ignorance is destroying America, not malfeasance.

If you are a true American, stand up and be counted. FUislam and all its trash that follows in its wake.

Oh dear: I hope this is another case of media hype of one study. I rely on Ibu for relief of rheumatoid arthritis. Chemo once a week seems to be stopping further deterioration, but I depend on it for daily pain relief. I have scrips for more potent pain relievers, but I’m averse to using them. My docs have not frowned on my daily dose of typically up to 800 mg of ibu.

Yours is an important post. A good friend of mine took ibuprofen for every little ache and pain she had. The ibuprofen ended up killing her...liver failure.

I thought too much acetaminophen was the culprit in liver failure.

Ibuprofen should have a black box warning on it.

Both ibuprofen and acetaminophen have been linked to liver failure. But you do make a good point. when it comes to the liver, acetaminophen is much worse.

most people are low on magnesium. lets calcium wreak havoc inside them. magnesium regulates calcium. soft tissue calcification and arthritis can be pegged to low mg.

My heart doc says I can’t take Alieve which for me is a real miracle pain killer. I took both asperin and ibuprofen years before my heart attack, 3 years ago.

Thanks for that info. Magnesium is also very much a part of heart rythm and relaxation, as well as sugar metabolism. Without enough magnesium, you're not going to get the insulin you need to metabolize it. Some people believe magnesium deficiency IS diabetes. Low magnesium is also conected to migraines, low energy, cramps, etc. Magnesium is also lost very easily - sweat, stress, etc. Here's a book on it: The Magnesium Miracle.

Ibopofen and acetomenophin (sp) never had much effect on my aches, but Aleve did. After too many years taking it, finally weaned off all painkillers and just deal with all the ancient insults to my body along with current ones.

Figure living with the aches lets me know I am still alive, after a fashion.
