BREAKING: Thomas Sowell To Vote 'Against Hillary'

Thomas Sowell, the legendary conservative economist and Hoover Institution fellow, announced on this morning's Ben Shapiro Show that "even though Donald Trump has no coherent vision that looks that promising," he will "vote against Hillary Clinton" in November.

Sowell has been a vocal critic of Donald Trump throughout and beyond the GOP primaries, and his decision centers around the enduring legacy of the next president's Supreme Court appointments, which he believes have the potential to subvert constitutional law and undermine specifically the First and Second Amendments. Here is the full text of Sowell's comments:

Well, my preference would be to leave the office vacant for four years and to wait for better things than 2016. Unfortunately that's not one of the options that we have. I think it's going to be dangerous and not merely bad if either of them becomes president. The question is, where's the danger greatest and, more importantly, most long-lasting? And I think that even though Donald Trump has no coherent vision that looks that promising, Hillary Clinton does have a vision, and it's a world in which she can, by determining who's on the next Supreme Court--for the next 50 years law in America can be undermined. The First and Second Amendments we can write off if she's allowed to put a majority on that court. And so long after, whether it's Clinton or Trump, long after they leave office, the people they put on the Supreme Court will be a legacy for the next generation and perhaps put an end to constitutional law in this country. And on that basis, I would vote against Hillary Clinton.

Who’s turning it down? I’m just saying I understand why Sowell isn’t voting for Trump as opposed to voting against Hillary.

And the SC is more than enough reason to vote for Trump. Hopefully he can get real decent men like Scalia/Thomas. We know the type Hillary would nominate and get past the senate. For this reason alone, the never trump crowd is deranged.

This man voted for McCain and Romney, for gosh sakes!

Voted for them over who, Comrade Obama?

Oh and if you aren’t a small government guy like Reagan was, you will have no problem with larger government in some areas. But some of what you want is better than none. But maybe this all for the best. I prefer Cruz. But Trump is doing some amazing stuff in this campaign. He’s better with Blacks and Latinos than Romney. This after the other side paints Trump as the most evil racist man ever. It’s simply amazing how the typical democrat playbook isn’t working.

Trump is like Nixon in one respect. A lot of us did not particularly like him, but the alternative was not an option.

So, Doctor Sowell, offer to help him find one. He will at least listen respectfully.

Because I don’t really hear Trump advocating for smaller government the way conservatives typically imagine it.

If he does so he'll lose votes of people working for the government and their friends and relatives. Most of them see Hillary for what she is. Once he gets in he should go gangbusters on that; we'll see!

A rational decision from a brilliant man. I agree 100% and even more so after the reading responses here from the haters. The meaner they are, the more I respect Dr. Sowell, who’s only the best thinker in my mind.

Sadly thee guys have their nose so high in the air, they may never come around.

They like the sanctimonious crown they placed on their heads, and couldn’t care less about the grunts fighting in the mud so that there is even a nation for him to ponder “great thoughts” about.

Tell me, is Hillary appreciably better than 0? Why was the decision so easy to vote for those two losers over Trump? He had no agony he expressed when voting McCain or Romney. Yet, he throws fits for MANY MONTHS over how Trump is just as bad as Hillary. He wasn’t going to vote Trump under any circumstance, and he still may not.

He’ll vote for the Green or Libertarian guy, at this rate.

He is, and has been, off his rocker.

“One of the best Conservative minds in the business. He realizes we simply cannot have that evil witch in the WH.”

Exactly. I think the majority posting comments on this thread haven’t read a single ONE of Dr. Sowell’s books; if they had, they wouldn’t be saying what they’re saying.

I’m not 100% Trump, but I am most CERTAINLY 100% AGAINST, ‘She Who Shall Not Be Named’!

Yeesh! There’s more on the line here than any of us can ever imagine. Did we REALLY dare to imagine that 0bama was going to be THIS bad, THIS destructive?

0bama is a total amateur compared to THIS witch, who has already had close to 50 years, ‘in public service’ doing any and everything she could to undermine America with her Alinsky-worshiping tactics!

In principle, capitalism and free trade are the ideal model.

But given the crony capitalism that has infested the body politic over the past 40 years, we are in a terrible jam.

Entrepreneurs and corporations need to have skin in the game. If they lose in business or fail to deliver in their career, they need to pay the consequences. And in that way, the risks to the entire economic systems are greatly lowered.

We can no longer support total freedom in the business world because the large corporations will simply demand special favors and expect the government to save them if they fail because they are “too big to fail”.

Black Swan author, Nassim Taleb, tells the story from ancient Mesopotamia about the law that required the architect who designed a bridge must house his family underneath that bridge. It’s a fitting metaphor for corporate responsibility.

So I love free trade, but government must also step in and regulate to ensure that companies who are too big to fail are broken up or that shareholders take the burden of failure onto themselves — not onto We The People.

Either Trump or evil bitch will be the next president. To vote against one of them with any meaningful result means to for for the other one. Any ross perot style vote is a waste.

Sowell’s the only ‘neverTrumper’ I’ve never lost faith or respect in... That said, it’s sure nice to know he’s not voting for Hillary.

He has wisely not taken the bait of entitlement reform, a loser for Reps who try to take the lead on this issue.

Unless the "entitlement" programs are "reformed" (out of existence), we're screwed.

Sowell did not achieve his success through affirmative action. And he is a real intellectual.

It is very difficult for someone who is 100% ideologically conservative to get behind Trump who is not an ideologue. Trump is a guy who takes action and gets results. He does not waste time navel gazing. If he makes a mistake in business he corrects, he adapts, he adjusts, he pivots. He will take a similar solution-oriented approach to fixing government.
