I don’t need air conditioning, and neither do you

It’s time to come out of the closet. Or, more precisely, the sweat lodge.

My family lives without air conditioning, except for one antique, semi-comatose window unit that “cools” the bedroom to approximately the same temperature as Dallas at dusk.

Our house in Philadelphia was built in the 1920s, when people were tough and resourceful. For most of the year, the house is cool and pleasant, as long as there isn’t a mash-up of continuously scorching days and epic humidity, when the air is putrid, stagnant and, if it were a color, would definitely be mustard.

Which would be this summer. Which, so far, is the fourth-hottest summer on record in the Washington area. Emphasis on so far. NASA reports that July was the Earth’s hottest in recorded history. Cheer up, people say to those of us without air conditioning, September’s coming. Except people forget that most of September is still summer.

They’ll have to take my air conditioning at the barrel of a gun. I won’t comply. These socialist busybodies want to make sure that only the elite have the creature comforts. Well, they got another thing coming.

The temperature in Lake Havasu City can exceed 120 degrees several times in a year and the city often reports the highest daily temperature in the country. Its 30-year average temperature is just one degree below Death Valley’s. Even the time lady once had trouble keeping up with the heat.

Yuma (AZ), United States, Average High: 107 F, Record High: 124 F
It’s normally hot in the southwest, especially in Arizona where ordinary summer heat makes much of the state sizzle, but no city is as extreme as Yuma. With its desert climate, extremely hot summers, hot winters and often less than 10 inches of precipitation per year, it’s fair to say Yuma is HOT! The average July high temperature can hit a scorching 107 F, making it one of the hottest cities in the United States behind Phoenix. In 1995, Yuma reached its all-time high at 124 F. The high temperature isn’t the only stand-out trait of Yuma. The city set a world record for being the sunniest city on earth, averaging 4,050 of the possible 4,456 hours of daylight annually. That means the sun is shining a little more than 90 percent of the time in Yuma. Pack extra sunscreen. Did 17 months in AZ Prison heh heh

I’m a cheapskate who doesn’t like giving money to big utility companies, so I don’t use AC, only ceiling fans. But my house is built sensibly to allow that—super thick insulation, higher ceilings, and cross-ventilating windows that open at the top to let heat escape.
Heavily insulated drapes, and the ability to close off unused rooms retain warmth in winter. Closets and bathrooms situated around exterior walls provide additional insulation.

It’s possible to build a home to be cost-efficient. My electric bill is never above $50 month when temps are between 90-100F.

Arizona in 115 degree heat w/o a/c is totally dysfunctional. Not possible.

East coast humid heat is worse than western dry heat,

Without a doubt!

I was stationed in Georgia and wilted in the summer humidity but it was much more bearable on the west coast.

A/C efficiency has soared in recent years. And window units have always been he least efficient. If she wasn’t such a libtard she would get a new efficient unit and it would cool her bedroom to a comfortable temperature all while using a fraction of the electricity. Then if she took a few showers her hubby want to might touch her. But then again, maybe not.

Well, if you were to fly in on your private jet and then wag your finger at me and scold me for being such a bad person because I drive my Hyundai to work, then yes, I would care about your jet and yacht and billion dollars. I doubt you are doing that, but a lot of these libtards do and for some reason see no problem with it.

He should try southeast Georgia in the summer.

Down here we get 3 months of air conditioning and 9 months of open windows.

I dare say my AC bill is a lot less than his heating bill.

I think she just wrote that to sound cool to other freaks. I don’t believe she doesn’t have AC.

She probably beats the heat by going to her beach house whenever it gets too hot in the city.

I grew up without A?C...I am 83. Houses were built for cross ventilation...and it got hot! Fans then water coolers were some relief.
My brother and I slept out on a screened porch in the summer...Note her house was built in the 1920s.

Air conditioning is my favorite invention! We just finished a 13 day triple digit spell last Saturday...People die in that kind of heat.
I’d give up many things before I gave up my A/C!
