I'm a 54 year old draftsman. I've been unemployed since March 2nd. I've been to 31 job interviews after applying to over 60 companies. No one wants to hire a 54 year-old man who is confined to a wheel chair.
When I was laid off from my job of over 22 years, I finally bit the bullet and filed for disability. I was approved, but I won't start receiving payments until October 26th. My rent on this place is due on Sept. 8th but my last unemployment check won't cover it. My wife and I are both disabled and out of much needed meds.
I'm not some damned bum looking to let the government take care of me. I've worked hard all my life. Since I graduated high school, I've rarely worked less than 40 hours per week. I actually calculated it and I've paid in well over $200,000 in State and Federal taxes.
Please, if anyone knows of a job in the Tulsa area that I could do from a wheel chair, let me know. It will be painful, but it's nothing I haven't been dealing with for over the past ten years.
It doesn't even have to be long term. Just enough to get me through to the end of October.

Most of the jobs are for programmers, but there are some that are customer-service jobs.
I’ve worked several jobs like that. In fact, I have 2 of them right now. Being able to telecommute is a Godsend for anyone with mobility issues!
I do AutoCAD. I have some training in Inventor. In fact I was the one who talked my company into integrating Inventor into our system.
There’s many references here on this thread you need to get on with.....’Temporay Services’ are your best bet for something right away....because your first priority is to cover your rent.
You may have to take what you can get for her car...and cut that loss...at this point it’s not about what things are worth...you need cash asp.
First priority is always paying rent or mortgage.....the rest can be worked out....so that should be your focus.

Please don’t loose faith or hope, because I was in the same situation on Jan. 25. 52 y/o construction manager, unemployed and living off my savings. It seemed as though no matter what job I applied for (Construction Management, laborer, retail sales, etc.) nobody was interested. It was truly a very disheartening, depressing, and discouraging experience. Trust in the Lord. Trust in yourself and keep knocking on doors and you will succeed.

Despite what others may say as to the interpretation of this passage, I have always believed (and still do believe) that God does not speak in riddles. He says what he means and means what he says. Believe it. Act upon it and allow His grace to do its work.

I'm registered with every temp agency, employment service, and head hunter site in the area. I'm willing to relocate, but I have no money, so unless a prospective employer is willing to move me, I don't know how I would accomplish that.
If I can get a job this week, I might be able to get my landlady to give me a couple extra weeks to pay the rent.
I had one very good interview yesterday. The man even knew my father-in-law and has worked with many of the same people I have. If I get the job, they'll send me to Omaha for training on their 3d modeling software. But I won't know until next week, and if I can find something sooner, all the better.
Take your car to Carmax to sell. Carmax has been quite fair - right at Bluebook prices, at least in my experience.

Well, check out my last post re: Tulsa/craigslist or maybe you can telecommute for Shotgun's company in Washington. He says they're dying for civil designers/drafters.
Civil is just big lumps of concrete anyway ;) Piece o'cake compared to structural.
There are organizations that only find jobs for the disabled. I don’t know the names of the ones in your area but your employment office should be able to help.
The minute he went on unemployment they should have filed for Medicaid. That’s what it is there for and would have covered the meds.
In my opinion there is nothing wrong with using govt programs to get you through tough spots. That’s exactly what they were created for.

Obviously you’ve never (thankfully) been in that position. Alot of us have tho, so play nice.
I need to make $2500 to $3000. That would cover rent, utilities and groceries. We can survive on rise, ramen and sandwiches for two months.
We're trying to sell my wife's car for that. It's well worth it, but no one who is interested and afford it and dealers won't come near it. The best price we've Gotten from a dealer is $1700 That would cover rent and most of the electric bill for two months. We're having a yard sale this weekend. We're selling every piece of furniture we don't sleep on. as well as 36 years worth of the books we've bought. I'm even selling my prized Choctaw nation Peace Pipe. It's worth over $1800, but I'll take what I can get for it.
Have you tried temporary agencies?
did you lose your insurance coverage when you lost your job and if so, what coverage did you have?

I thought about that, but the Carmax guy here is pretty shady. I've never heard anything good about him but I guess I could at least let him make an offer.
