Press release from California Department of Fish and Wildlife:

Starting July 1, 2016, nonlead shot will be required when taking upland game birds with a shotgun in California, except for dove, quail, snipe, and any game birds taken at licensed game bird clubs. In addition, nonlead shot will be required when using a shotgun to take resident small game mammals, furbearing mammals, nongame mammals, nongame birds and any wildlife for depredation purposes.

Existing restrictions on the use of lead ammunition in the California condor range, when taking Nelson bighorn sheep and when hunting on all California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) wildlife areas and ecological reserves remain in effect.

The next phase of the implementation goes into effect July 1, 2019, when hunters must use nonlead ammunition when taking any animal anywhere in the state for any purpose. There are no restrictions on the use of lead ammunition for target shooting purposes. Read the rest of the story here.

Maybe encapsulated mercury. It’s denser than lead. Scrap mercury goes for $5/gallon. Kind of poisonous, though.

Didn’t say anything about bismuth, thorium, tungsten nail, or spent uranium rounds did they?

In a lame attempt to solve one problem, they create several new ones.

Let those idiots making the ban be only fed upland game that has been taken with steel shot. Their dentists will get new boats.

Lead-Free bullets are an abomination forced on us by liberals so that they can feel good.
I went to buy fishing sinkers last week and they only had the non-lead crap, but a little searching on the internet allowed me to get about 15 pounds of assorted lead sinkers and split-shot.

Banning lead in bullets is cruel. Most of the tree-huggers want to force copper on us without considering the consequences.

During the Mexican-American War, the Mexicans used copper rounds. Our troops would get a wound that would normally be survivable if lead, but the copper corrodes in the wound creating copper salts and these would kill our guys very painfully weeks or months later. Copper bullets were outlawed by international convention but that did not concern the Mexican Army.

“Really? You can buy scrap mercury?!?!”

Well, I can’t, not personally. Unless you’re you’re talking about a Ford.
