Idiot! She didn’t pay the next two years either. I know you feel for the slug. Why didn’t you bail her out?

She did pay them, albeit late. I did advise you to read the article, especially before you started name-calling; there is a mention of the woman having been in an automobile accident. The foreclosure is admitted by the county to be over the $7.70 late fee, not other taxes remaining unpaid. They foreclosed instead of merely acting on these measures:
Documents received from the FOIA request show that Hillsdale County sent delinquent tax notices in 2014, postmarked June 1 and Sept. 1, to Baker’s home address in Jackson. The notices said she owed $7.70. If she paid after Aug. 31, the fee would go up to $9.16. The second notice stated the fee would go up to $24.39 if the bill were paid after Nov. 30. …
Now why were these notices not forwarded to her other address?

The county also alleges that property taxes from two other years were not paid, but the foreclosure notice apparently circulates over the late fee. Habeas corpus has not been suspended in the USA; the woman was never arrested over these allegations nor summoned to court. More than meets the eye here.
