I have found that people are so ignorant of political events these days it would take years of education to begin to turn them around. They’re completely academically lazy so they just cherry pick talking points from their friends so they think they can sound politically astute.
Trying to give little elevator speeches to people like this is a complete waste of breath. It’s really a ‘casting pearls before the swine’ type thing.

But it can be fun to try.
I like to make my point by reminding them (depending on their age) of something they have already accepted whether they have realized it or not.
As an example, say, “We should tax the rich, feed the poor, til there are rich no more”
If they already know your position they will nod in agreement, “yes, yes, yes,,,err,,, wait,,, what”?, “Wait, what?, that can’t be right”.
