As a retired petro-chemical engineer who lived/worked
in more than 45 countries; Football(Soccer)is emphatically, the sport of choice in the rest of the world. Period!
The NFL Super Bowl, our most well known attraction, drew a world wide audience of 400,000,000. In contrast, the World Cup between Argentina and Germany drew a world wide audience of 4,200,000,000 per Nielsen and that’s billion! Try getting real.

busted?? not at all, what are you whining about?

I love how followers of this boring sport can’t say one thing of substance on its behalf.

I am well aware of all that. In my younger days I played (high school and college) and then was a FIFA certified referee in the sport..... until I got bored, and decided that I had been propagandized from an early age. Sure it may be popular but it is booooorriiinnnnnngggg..... just shows there is no accounting for taste. I don’t know why it’s so popular, except that it only takes a ball and a field to play so that makes it very accessible. Still, it is boring.

that’s not substance, that is mere popularity.... we already know that there are a lot of stupid people in the world

After the 2006 World Cup, I went into that sports store Champps and they had of all teams, Anthem jackets cheap for one team; Portugal, so I grabbed it. Had a nice USA soccer jacket; I think someone took it, blue and I loved it. I got some soccer gear from Germany on ebay, a Beckenbauer addidas t-shirt. I also have a Klinsmann ‘94 German jersey or shirt, slightly small for me. Have a mini-collection of gear from a few countries.

Heartbreaker, in all fairness, Portugal could have been given a penalty kick earlier. Come On Croatia! Minutes left, what bad luck, gutted.

For many more goals they could make the net the width of the field but that would be boring.

Or just like the other "smart" ones who suggest scrapping the offsides rule. LOL--Can you imagine? A bunch of tall, heavy guys standing in front of the net waiting for the ball. And the "smart" ones would still say it's boring.

Seems like teams are really going after Lewandowski, I don’t know if he can make it through the tournament with all the abuse he’s been getting.

Italy v Spain: Thiago denies shirt jinx ahead of Azzurri clash

Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara has laughed off suggestions their white kit is a jinx as they prepare to take on Italy at Euro 2016 on Monday.

UEFA has confirmed Italy will wear blue for the match at the Stade de France with Spain wearing white, the colour they wore when losing 2-1 to Italy in the 1994 World Cup quarter-final.

Spain have also suffered defeats to Portugal at the European Championship in 2004 and at the 1998 World Cup to Nigeria while wearing white, but Thiago is not worried about claims the shirt brings bad luck.

"There is no jinx in our team," said the Bayern Munich midfielder. "The white shirt is just a shirt.

"The important thing is not the colour of our shirt, it is our country."

Also:

Key Opta stats: - This will be the 35th encounter between Italy and Spain. The record is perfectly balanced so far with 10 wins each and 14 draws.

Northern Ireland, excerpt:

O´Neill left frustrated by officials following Euro 2016 exit

However, despite the defeat O'Neill was delighted with the effort put in by his side.

"It hurts, it's a very, very cruel way to lose the game. We didn't deserve to lose the game," he said in his post-match press conference.

"We felt if we kept [Gareth] Bale and [Aaron] Ramsey quiet, Wales would struggle to get momentum. We could have created more with our first-half dominance but we were fairly comfortable.

"When you're a small nation without world-class players you have to be strong tactically and make yourselves difficult to beat. We've certainly done that.

"I was disappointed towards the end in terms of the time-wasting and I felt the referee could have handled that better, but in terms of our display and how we played we couldn't have asked any more of the players."

More at soccerway.
