If youre into bass fishing or follow pro fishing, there are some derogatory comments about the sport from the "haters". Enter pro angler Fat Cat Newton rattling off in this video in response to the subject.
Excerpt script from the video:
To these people that think professional fishin' is not a professional sport, bless your heart. Apparently you've never been across the water runnin' about seventy-sixty miles an hour makin' that long run, when the weatherman says 'ah the winds gonna blow about five to ten miles an hour you get out there theres thirty-four mile-an-hour gusts, you got three or four foot swells, and youre tryin to run across that choppy, youre gettin' soakin' wet in thirty-five, forty degree weather, and youre gettin your GUTS beat out, literally you gotta stop to push your guts back up inside of you. See the video here.
Literally?? Does the video show him pushing his guts back inside him? If so, I'll pass.
I would call anyone who makes a good living by sport fishing all day EXTREMELY smart....
I just love these articles from people responding to heretofore unmentioned “haters”. I mean is this really a thing? A grassroots movement against professional bass fishing?
No. Just another demographic with a persecution complex. Nobody gives enough of a damn to be a hater. I rank this down there with drama among YouTube personalities or women on FB posting memes about being persecuted/not respected because of their tattoos.

Seems like his apologetic is focused on boating rather than actual fishing.
So if I have to brave harsh weather conditions to get to work, does that make the job I do once I get there a “competitive sport”? I don’t think so.
I prefer to do my fishing at the grocery store using my debit card as bait. It might not be very sporting, but it doesn’t take all day and I don’t need to maintain a boat.
The only hating I ever did was once I had a roommate who insisted on watching the fishing shows on Saturday morning. I decided that was a good time to play golf and let him watch his shows. Problems solved (except when it rained.)
Only if when ya finally get ta work, ya gotta push yer GUTS back up inta yersef.
Literally pushing his guts back in? Sounds fishy to me. If a storm comes up, I take my pole out of the water and walk into the house with my guts safely intact.
As for sports fishing, I’ve had a great dislike for them since one used a tournament as an excuse not to show up for jury duty while the rest of us had to take a day off work. Nope, sorry, sports fisherman are not better than the rest of us.
No, really... it's not about the boats, it's about the fishing.

It’s just like NASCAR. It is not there to invite others to do it, it is there to invite you to buy the equipment they get for free to go out and try it or continue it because you have so much invested in it. It’s an infomercial.

I’m MacGillycutty and you, Newton, invaded my safe space. My bias counselor can’t get here fast enough. I need healing.
I used to bass fish a lot but I got to the point where I just didn’t want to work that hard when I went fishing. Now I most fish for panfish, cats and walleye.
The straw men are running big today.
It’s hideous, watching those idiots throw fish back in the water. What a waste. It’s time for bass farming. Stop the regulations against good work and good markets.
If I knew how to post pictures, I’d show you pictures of YUUUUGE smallmouths from Lake Erie and a Hawg I caught in the Everglades. Never kept a one. Same with white marlin off Maryland, sailfish in Mexico. I fight ‘em, get drunk after and say “What a great Day!!” Now if it’s a tuna or a grouper....fire up the grill!!
By the way, 35 degrees, that’s nothing. Try over 50 below. And four foot swells...also nothing for those here who’ve been in rough seas with small craft.
Well, okay. Have fun, and toss ‘em back. But please, speak in favor of farming native fish for markets! It will also help to keep out some invasive species. I don’t know why some sport fishing associations have opposed native fish on small farms for selling to markets.
