Gersh Kuntzman probably thought he was onto something. In the wake of the tragedy in Orlando, he decided to write a story about what it's like to shoot an AR-15. Sounds like an interesting story, right?
Well, unfortunately, Kuntzman reported his experiences by saying it felt like a "bazooka" and that the experience gave him a case of "temporary post-traumatic stress disorder."
Understandably, he got some backlash. Now, he's trying to argue that saying mean things to him in an email is censorship or something:
Besides, if masculinity is defined by the power to commit violence on a wide scale, I proudly choose femininity. At one time, “being a man” meant standing up for what you believe in -- and against injustice. By that definition, we need more real men in power taking on bullies like the NRA, which seeks to bolster the Second Amendment by shutting down opponents’ right to the First. We can’t even debate guns in this country, thanks to the gun lobby.
No one is stopping Kuntzman from speaking. However, when you speak, people have a tendency to use their own First Amendment rights to lash out. The First Amendment is a two-way street.
However, as with the Second Amendment, the First comes with some responsibilities.
This is particularly true for journalists. They have an obligation to not misrepresent the people they quote. Oh, it happens all the time, but it's not supposed to.

The AR-15’s key attribute is LOW RECOIL —that’s part of the reason why Vietnamese slight in frame took to it so readily.
His claim is not quite as ridiculous as a claim that a squirt gun can bruise a shoulder, but IT IS CLOSE.
He just needs more starch in his panties.

After firing M14’s for a while at a rifle range, a DI showed the benefit of the new M16 recoil reduction by putting the stock on his chin and firing a few rounds before the “tour” group then got a turn with it to hit some targets.
Obviously a graduate from the Dan Rather school of journalism.
I know folks who demo the 5.56's low recoil by resting the buttplate on their chin.
And, some troops are taught to put their nose in contact with the operating handle to maintain a consistent sight picture...
I shoot one like a pistol -- one-handed.

My dad knew somebody whose original last name was Lifshitz. The family changed the name.
Qualified with the M-14 in 1969, first fired the M-16 in 1970, last fired it in 2010 (break in service). Hated the M-16 & still do, lousy kachingka aluminum toothbrush. AK-47 in Vietnam had it skinned a mile.
Bought an M-14A after I retired, love firing it, the rifle equivalent of my living room couch.
Our introduction to the M-14 was watching the drill sergeant fire it from his chin.
I suspect that choice was made long before he ever shot a rifle.

They must have brought her out just for the occasion. I don't think I saw her again during the training cycle (wherein some coursework was attended by the BT BN en bloc including the company of female recruits and their scary bull-dyke-lookin Drills).
