They should develop a new type of cement shoe and go jump in a lake!

"These guys are full of beans."

Partially digested bean gasses is what they are full of!!!

This "sustainability" hokum is about as real as Michael Jackson's "Never never land!" Along with "alternative" energy and "alternative" medicine and especially the making of villains out of mining and drilling people by calling them evil "Resource Extractors!"

These whackos are infesting our so-called "institutions of higher learning" with stupid pussey thinking and government "grant writing" exercises in waste and futility!!!

You have nailed it twice and for me the word “sustainable” and the sentence below was all I needed to know. BEE ESS!!!

That’s what we aim for. Our framework puts it all on paper, in a very concrete way, for engineers to use.”

-—for me the word “sustainable”
.
.
.
last night I’m watching some Netflix show about Sushi. I like Sushi. Well, somewhere in the beginning they get into some restaurant where the guy is substituting salmon with some other fish, and he’s talking about “sustainability”. I thought OK, sounds good so far. But then he goes on to pontificate that we cannot use farm raised fish because that is not sustainable, so he only gets wild salmon when it’s in season..

Now I thought “wait.. what? Farm raised fish is NOT sustainable (even though they breed their own), but taking wild fish IS sustainable?”

Am I missing something on this whole “sustainable” thing or has the world gone nuts?

Which is a good subject ... $$$$ or DDT?

Everyone can agree DDT works, but the question is “Do we have a Problem? Or an Opportunity?

Malaria is a much bigger problem/killer than Zika but we have a Media and a bunch of Grifters (sorry media and elite Uniparty Politicians = Grifters) so to call our elected officials Grifters would be redundant.

We have a much bigger problem! We need to FIX the Media, the Elected Grifters will go way after we vote them out and strip them of their ill gotten goods, it is the Media that is so un-educated and indoctrinated that has recently found out that they are no longer in the drivers seat ... or dodging bullets crashing helicopters or drowning in a massive flood in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
Twitter can now announce the Friday Bad News Data Dumps...
And just one question to any so called “Reporter”
Y’all ever get Sloppy? (No Hot Dog Mygen Hallway Jokes Please) Do reporters ever get sloppy? If they do; are they immune to any Prosecution or even anyone speaking bad about them ... hell they were just sloppy or do they LIE?
Just a dumb question from a non-elite and non MSM background kinda guy that has taken the Oath that...

I DO solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
I took that Oath a minimum of at least 11 times and I never un-took it.

Sanity may prevail when we finally get rid of Political Correctness, the Elite are scared of that most ... it is where the store the Guilt and I am SICK OF IT!

MSM on the alphabet Channels will be shown to be pandering lying fools one after another as replacements and alternatives are at the same time arriving. Hope they don’t see it coming... I want nice clean “First Amendment” Sweep and I hope they see the “Second Amendment” in their Rear View Mirror as they head off to Cuba or Venezuela or some other Commie Paradise of their choosing (but they won’t, they will move to a Low or No Tax Sate like Texas or Florida and try to Badmouth their Good Fortune)
I’m gonna save this Rant and Post it again ... somewhere
gnight

Jus don’t use Obama’s promises as a binding agent, because that stuff doesn’t hold.

Not so obvious in the above text is that the warmiists want materials that are not processed using combustible fuels hat produce carbon dioxide. That is how all ceramics are made: bricks, glass, and pottery, and portland cement for concrete.

Durable materials are not made with low temperature processes economically. To think otherwise is rather ignorant. It is high temperature processes that has permitted complex civilization as we know it.

We did, but the stuff is impossible to break down without explosives so it’s not used much. We like build and then rebuilding to much.

They used a volcanic ash that you cannot get just anywhere. The goal is to find a common binding agent that can be used all the time.

You are “MY HERO of the Day”

I do little classes here and there ... I didn’t know I could do MIT courses On-Line

Are they expensive? Do you have to pre-qualify?

I am not trying to get “Paper” I just want to “Know” and the fun part is sometimes some of it I already “Know” so I can get it behind me and start the next... back in the day they didn’t allow that ... I was pumping Gas and Changing Mufflers when I should have been in Classes that I was Paying for, eating won my internal argument.

Dang ... it’s 3:AM here gonna have to research it tomorrow

The course I am taking was a bit over my price range but I noticed they had discounts so I applied for that.

They offered up to 90% discount. I figured I might get 25% or if lucky maybe 50% discount. There were three fields for text to answer and describe my situation. One was based on numbers, another was based on how this course could help you. So I filled in a few sentences in each field and clicked done but then I got a message that each field needed at least 800 text characters to it.

So I was like OK, they want the full sob story then grab your crying towel because here it comes baby!...

Next day I got an email saying congratulations they are giving me 100% discount. Which was of course great news but also a bit depressing at how bad off I am. I never noticed much because there are finer things in life than money.

So look into that. These are good people.

Coal fly ash works almost as well as volcanic ash and we billions of tons of it from coal power plant waste.

The goal is to find a common binding agent that can be used all the time.

Portland cement works.

I got my start in construction when working with a ready-mix company in NC in the late 60's and early 80's. I learned as much as I could and even got a NC Concrete Technician certification to design mixes for government and civilian projects. I have been involved in producing concrete for two of the Cape Fear River bridges, high-rises on Carolina Beach, and even at the Nuclear plant near Southport. I don't consider myself as an expert, but I have a fair working knowledge.

We seldom used fly ash as an inclusive though at times used it to lower the price on some jobs. But, when maximum strength and durability were required, we used chemical additives. On one high-rise being built by Cianbro Construction at Carolina Beach, we were able to produce high strength (6000-6500 psi breaks) over night and achieve up to 9000psi after the 28-day cure time, using 12 ounces of a plasticizer additive per cubic yard. It was simple science, not magic. It required adherence to the formula and using paper materials. The concrete was hoisted in buckets and placed into wall forms, then vibrated to get the air out.

With all the educated people, they may come up with something better, but until then, I will use Portland Cement for any project requiring solid construction.

One of the biggest problems is that people add water to mixture to make it more malleable and easy to move. Unfortunately, that is why driveways (and other exposed surfaces) crack. Again, it is a formula that requires adherence to proper use and placement. Too many people just don't know how to do it.

Concrete doesn't get hard because it gets dry. It is a chemical reaction that actually works better when the exterior surface is kept wet for the maximum time. But, when you see somebody pushes it while placing it and you see a lot water bleed out, you can bet you will not get what you paid for!

*When this bridge was built, they placed temperature sensors about 20 feet below the water line, and 5 years later still got 90+ degrees temps from the ongoing hydration!

Should read "It required adherence to the formula and using proper materials!

“You could never get seashells and bones in the massive amounts necessary to produce enough clink to meet the demand for concrete.”

In FL the limestone is composed of crushed sea shells. The upper level of the rock is a mass of compacted shells. So you’re saying if that was heated and reduced to clink it could be used to form a new type of cement? Would be nice. Local concrete using sand and shell aggregate isn’t particularly durable, uniform or appealing.
