Speaking from the White House Oval Office on Friday to press Congress to approve his request for $1.9 billion to fight the Zika virus, President Barack Obama said it is not as easy as building a wall to keep all mosquitoes out of the United States.
“And understand that this is not something where we can build a wall to prevent — mosquitoes don’t go through Customs,” Obama said. “To the extent that we’re not handling this thing on the front end, we’re going to have bigger problems on the back end.” …

There Obama is, acting as if the eeeeeeeevil Republicans are blocking funding for Zika research. The reality is that they’ve already put forward over $600 million for Zika research. He’s making a big deal because it’s half of what he proposed. He is probably also upset since they shifted the money from elsewhere instead of incurring new debt for it.
In reality, if over $600 million is not enough, more money for Zika can be placed in the budget for next year. Just take it out of Dept. of Education, welfare, or some other useless program.

I guess Obama thinks that Zika bearing mosquitoes migrate from Latin America to spread the disease. Fraud not. People with Zika cross the border and the mosquitoes already in America (thanks to no DDT and undisturbed ‘wetland’ breeding grounds) allow the spread without his silliness.
Indeed. We have plenty of mosquitoes that could spread disease, if it weren’t for the massive public health efforts needed to eradicate the diseases. Malaria and yellow-fever used to be endemic in the US and could be again without constant vigilance.
West Nile Virus has already become endemic to the US. Chikungunya and Dengue are poised to become bigger problems. Chagas disease is not caused by mosquitoes, but by another bug, the triatomine, that is native to the US.
Allowing unchecked immigration, legal as well as illegal is posing a huge public health threat.

If Obama gets the funding he wants, he will use every last penny for anything but stopping the Zika virus, including actions that will spread Zika in the US. It’s his M.O.
Obama’s gonna use every Zika dollar to infect Americans with the Zika virus. This is John Holdren’s “sterilize the population in a uniform manner” dream come true. Except he gets a bonus and sterilizes the southern states first, but I haven’t seen any testing to show that northern mosquitoes aren’t just as effective in acquiring the virus from a Zika carrier and spreading it all over the community. It would be an easy thing to test in a contained environment under lab conditions.
Obama would be desperately quarantining Zika infected people in Mosquito-free environments if he was interested in using the Zika money to stop the spread of Zika. I bet he’s spreading them out for maximum coverage.
It probably gets worse next year so have a baby this year before we are all Zika-positive.
