Cute story, mylife. I haven’t seen you on the Rush threads.
I’m going to culinary school in September and I always think of you and food together.
I am automated test engineer and the end product is only as good as the guy that writes the code and designs the machine.
The programmer/engineer needs to be a chef or the result is McS*** on a stick.
Its up to you to mix the stew and when you do...
Give my compliments to the chef.
I am back at work so cannot do the rush threads.
If you have the money for culinary school, do it.
Eating never goes out of style, nor does hospitality.
That is what is lacking in this robot plan.

I’m doing it for the hell of it and at a technical college - $600 a semester, hardly the CIA! But it looks great and one of the teachers appears occasionally on the Food Network, for what that’s worth.
We miss you over there.
Good for you, network and have fun.
Miss yall too.
I wish they could invent a machine to actually make the food, too.
Every time I ask for no mayo on a sandwich, they screw it up. Sometimes I’ve had to send it back twice.
Self-ordering is a good thing. It eliminates one more chance for error in getting the order right. In my area, this is less a problem at Wendy’s, where the staff mostly speak English, than it is at McDonald’s, which is a major Ebonics and Spanish language center, but the problem does arise from time to time.
I still remember all your links to submarine cooking. We miss you a lot, take my word for it.
Oh, on the side, Here is my latest little game:
I ask people of diverse backgrounds what is your childhood comfort food? The food that makes you feel safe and warm?
People will tell you their life stories, they will tell you things they themselves have not thought of in 30 years.
A neat social experiment
Machines are just tools, someone still needs to know what the fudge is going on.
I can see a machine plopping a quart of mayo on you sangwich LOL
That’s very cool. That could actually be a book like Nora Ephron’s ‘How to Eat Like a Child.’ I know you’re busy but do you do the weekly food thread here run by Jamestown? It’s really good. It can be done at any time.
We recreate the sub/vet cooking thing every friday night at the VFW,
I am now a lifetime member
I have seen the thread but largely miss it since I am not on a pinglist
Would you like to be on one?!
I went into a McDonald’s in Paris with a self-ordering machine.
Most commonly in Europe, I just bought a wrapped sandwich in a supermarket and used an automatic checkout machine.
In Washington, DC, I bought wrapped cold cuts and bread. I used a manned checkout though.
it happens in all fields and just because its happening at the lower tier of wages we probably shouldn't gloat because who knows...we'll probably have robots piloting planes and robots doing engineering work....
I enjoy the way people open up emotionally around good food.
I can’t imagine people in the future saying, I remember when Grandpa used to take me to the automated food kiosk. LOL
would we rather they just not work and collect welfare?....
we NEED jobs....people need to WORK...
