Interstate 10 Shut Down Mile Post 352-Mile Post 378.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is assisting with closing Interstate 10 both east and west bound lanes near San Simon. The closure is the result of zero visibility and multiple vehicle accidents.

Please be advised to avoid this area until further notice. At least one semi-truck has collided with several vehicles, a San Simon Fire Truck and DPS vehicle have been involved in crashes as well.

Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office is sending emergency vehicles to assist.

DPS is re-routing traffic to Exit 352 through Highway 191 to Safford and back around over into NM and back to Interstate 10.

Avoid this area and plan for extra time to get around this area.

***** “Got off on to the shoulder but kept waiting for someone to clobber me from behind” ****

Been there done that ... then 250 miles of stopping every 15 minutes drive time to collect bottles cans or anything that would hold water to cool the engine (sand destroyed the Radiator, AC and Transmission coolers)
My new Bride was impressed, we went on our Honeymoon the very next morning after 2 hours in a Auto Parts parking lot where I changed everything out, next 200 miles was with her newly minted Grease from finger to elbow Husbands arm around her lovely smiling self.

We were stationed at Twenty-Nine Palms for four months. Had to have our windows replaced and the car painted because of the sand storms. The dust in the house afterwards was awful.

Haboobs really suck....we rarely get 'em in the Kalifornia desert, but they blow through every few years -- driving in one would be identical to a thick fogbank, but your car's windshield and paintjob are likely to suffer eternal damage from the wind/sand blowing.

They're also unusual in New Mexico, but the entirety of the state's southern route via I-10 has frequent signage warning of the possibility of "blowing sand and dust".

I will have to check it out on a local website. I only live about 90 some miles from the storm area.

Nice riding from Sierra Vista to Bisbee for lunch, then on to Tombstone.

Rosa's Italian Kitchen in Warren. Perhaps the best Italian restaurant in the US of A. Reservations recommended, BYOB.

Regrettably, I believe it's closed now.

Yes, on I10 in Arizona right before the New Mexico border. I have been through the area many times. On the New Mexico side they are a couple of dry lakes that will also have a ton of blowing dust.
