I’m 53 and I drive very defensively these days. I assume everyone is drunk and/or texting, your husband probably does the same.
I noticed that people wearing helmets were more likely to take chances
A long ago a friend of mine was run over by a school bus. It hit him and the rear wheels ran over his hips. The news said he wasnt wearing a helmet. The bus driver showed up in court wearing a neck brace!
My son is an avid cyclist (i.e., bicycle, not motorcycle). One day he was out riding, hit a bump, and was pitched headfirst over the handlebars. He landed on the top of his helmet. The helmet was ruined. He came through without any injury.
I always wear a helmet when I'm riding my bicycle. Had a few spills, but no broken bones and especially no head injuries.
The article deals with injury rate before mandatory helmet law and after repeal of that law.
Rate went DOWN when helmets were not required.
“”Rate went DOWN when helmets were not required.”
True. But the article didn’t indicate if helmets were worn or not in the accidents. “
True again. What the soft message of the article really is: laws do not make us safer, individuals doing the right thing and being responsible for their own actions is what makes us safer.
We do not need a nanny state.
Just for the record, I wear a helmet, not because the state tells me to, but because I believe I get some protection from it. You and I should be free to make our own decisions, and we should live with the consequences of those decisions.
