My sweet little Cashmere passed away today.
She was only 9 1/2 years old. She had quit eating starting Friday so by Sunday I was panicking and took her to the emergency vet. She had lost quite a bit of weight already, due to polycystic kidney disease. The vet said we could only get maybe another couple weeks with her with treatment at the clinic, so we decided to end her suffering.
She has about the sweetest cat I've ever had. Cautious, shy, the undercat among her brother and sister. I always had to protect her and make sure she got her fair share of food, toys, catnip, etc.
She was quietly playful - I'd catch her playing with string the string from window blinds or a piece of paper on the floor. When she was un 'friendly mode', she'd purr loudly, rub against you while twirling round and round, finally settling down to knead while purring her head off.
She was the only cat I could trust to take outside at our cabin in the Sierras, since she'd always stay by me and would follow me when I called her. She'd get nervous after an hour outside and stand by the front door, waiting to be let in. But she'd chase bugs and play while outside - while I snapped pictures of her. She was very photogenic!
I apologize for all the pictures! My little girl took good pictures (of course, all pet parents think the same thing!). Her brother and sister weren't nearly as photogenic, though. These pictures represent my memories of her so I wanted to share them, plus post a memorial to her. I did try to keep them small!
Her sister, Cotton, and brother, Corduroy, will miss her terribly. The 3 have been together for 9 1/2 years and don't know what it's like to be apart. Like any siblings, they had their tiffs, with little Cashmere in the losing end most of the time. So when they'd get along and sleep, play, or watch birds together, I'd be happy for Cashmere.
What is your secret?
I want all my animals to live that long!
very sweet site, thank you
Oh, what a shock that had to be!
Isn’t that a weird pose? She didn’t do that often - there must’ve been a bird or something.
Reminds me of a lemming!
“The animals Ive owned have been better than most of the people Ive met.”
Ditto!
Ha! Cute story about the mouse. And I can imagine her prancing. What a sweet kitty!
She’s siamese. Siamese for some reason have long life spans. She’s also too ornery to die. She gets cranky and bites me almost daily. But she’s learned to “pull her punches” when she bites, so it’s kind of a game with her. She is also capable of being the biggest love sponge imaginable. A very complex little lady.

I’m so sorry for your loss.
Gorgeous kitteh! It sounds like she lived a full life of love and adoration. May her memories and her siblings comfort you. I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s something we know will happen eventually to all but it still hurts anyway.
What a beautiful, precious little furball! My BFF has been in tears most of the day because her kitten went to the vet to get fixed and won’t be back until tomorrow. But the two have never been apart for more than a few hours. Here is a beautiful and sad poem:
Poem to a Dead Kitten
Put the rubber mouse away,
Pick the spools up from the floor,
What was velvet shod, and gay,
Will not want them, any more.
What was warm, is strangely cold.
Whence dissolved the little breath?
How could this small body hold
So immense a thing as Death?

I am sorry. I know how you can love your kitty. I have an old cat and she is really slowing down.
Sounds like a crazy cat family. :)
Whiskers drooping and tail grounded in sympathy for your loss.
Never had a furry pet but I cried my heart out as a kid when my froggie died. It’s hard to lose a pet. So sorry for your loss. :-(
God Bless. RIP, baby girl. Prayers up for y’all....
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Same here.
I am so very sorry for your loss, but be patient Cashmere is only across the veil, and I do believe with all my heart she will let her “Mommy” know that she’s not very far away from you.
You are in my prayers.
So sorry. She was beautiful :)
What a sweet kitty. Sorry for your loss.
