CNN is not only desperate to absolve itself of its legitimate responsibility for spreading the false idea that Dr. Ben Carson was dropping out of the presidential race last week, CNN is also hoping to complete a three-bank shot that will damage Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in the process. Saturday night, CNN went so far as to have their phony left-wing "fact-checker" Tom Foreman lie about Cruz.
For all of this to make sense, let's start at the beginning.
Last Monday night, during the Iowa Caucus, I watched CNN live and saw the Carson segment in question that lit this political fire. At the time, there was no doubt in my mind that CNN, for whatever reason, wanted people to believe that Carson was dropping out of the race. Watch the segment with Jake Tapper and Dana Bash for yourself.
Watch Bash turn a nothingburger turned into breathless "breaking news."

I have it on good authority here at FR that 1,327.9 angels can dance on the head of a pin.
Their “fact checker” is immune to facts.
CNN lies. We all know it. But the Trump people (and the CArson people) want us to believe in what CNN says because they think they can use it to damage Cruz, who is the leading threat to The Don.
TED CRUZ - PRESIDENT
Lots of CNN groupies with CDS here at FR.
Cruzin to the white house! :) And this article is from Nolte who is a big Trump supporter.
Knowing Carson, I’d guess the first thing he did was run to CNN and try to find a way to fabricate a scenario which makes Cruz and conservatives look bad. CNN also gets to sabotage Trump (who really should not have fallen for the trap in believing that Carson was an ally), all so Rube-o can take the nomination easier.
After Rube-o’s embarrassing performance in the last debate, expect the attacks on Cruz and Trump to be exponentially greater over the next few days.
Oh please. Why the heck did the Cruz campaign embellish and pass on a story from them without checking it at its source, since we all know "CNN lies"?
Meanwhile, what about the optics of taking the votes of the vulnerable black candidate? One could argue that even if the story were true, the other campaigns should've let him have his day and pick up a few delegates.
The harder the campaign tries to explain its politics the old fashioned way strategies, the deeper folks are digging, and the worse all those connections with Cruz and elements of the establishment. look.
Carson’s Cruz-attack/self-defense is that the staffer who started this crap immediately(?) sent out a correction. Well. welcome to the internet and 21st century.
You can’t just stuff that genie back into the bottle.
You don’t get to release the smoke and only let them peak at the smoke you want them to.
It takes a lot longer to heard a bunch of cats than it does to release them.
It may have been different if a reporter had just overheard them talking and then had a chance to stop the report.
But Campaign Carson started this, CNN ran with it and pushed the narrative, and Cruz’s (and I have heard Rubio’s) campaign were stupid enough to believe CNN.
OK CNN, lesson learned.
They didn’t embellish it, and they said it came from CNN.
You just think it’s “corrupt” because it hurts your candidate.
I mean, who does that Cruz boy think he is? What right does he have to finish ahead of The Don? Who said he could do that? Doesn’t he know that The Don is a winner and winners win, so if he doesn’t win, it’s not fair?
No no. The Trumpettes have already informed me that Cruz is evil. Stop throwing facts into this debate.
Bingo! You are correct: political damag is what matters these days even on FR to many not fidelity to the truth!!
It isn’t the first time Jeff Roe has done that, so we know it was deliberate.
Eckersley calls e-mail a hoax, says he’s still in the race (AUDIO)
“You know this is dirty politics. This is Jeff Roe-style management. That’s who Billy’s retained. That’s who he writes the big checks to,” Eckersley tells Missourinet affiliate KTTS. “This is Kansas City management doing what they do best, which is playing dirty.”

It’s actually more about the TIME STAMPS, and the fact that only the Cruz Campaign extrapolated from a nothing burger travel plan for Carson, into a hell of a reach, that he had “suspended” his campaign.
The CNN pundits never said the only word that counts...
“SUSPEND”. The Cruz’ Campaign said it.
Cruz’ operation failed to confirm their own inference, before launching their caucus steal.
You know how it goes..... strike now, apologize later.
CNN made you wonder alright, about Carson’s future, but they know the lingo. And rumors ain’t it. They never said he was suspending. Cruz guy tweeted that impactful word.
It's logically inconsistent. Which is it? Does CNN lie or are they a source so trustworthy it's not necessary to verify their stories before accepting them?
Nice! You typed the words for me. :)
Anybody who saw that report on CNN thought the same thing. Those who claim otherwise are being disingenuous at best.
It sounded as if Carson was about to suspend his campaign. It was HIS staffer that told CNN this, and the fact that he won’t take responsibility for that is very troubling.
Additionally, CNN also had the correction from the Carson campaign, but chose NOT to run that story until much later. Very telling.
Nott much of an extrapolation, given that the CNN report implied it, and also given that:
Carson had just lost a bunch of staffers (who came to Cruz), and
In late January, Carson advisor Armstrong Williams suggested that Carson might be quitting soon.
Suggestions and implications and rumors do not form the words “SUSPEND” on the lips of anyone involved.
Except for the Cruz Campaign.
CNN did not say “suspend”.
Every single former contender from Rick Perry to Santorum has “SUSPENDED” their campaign.
It’s a word never to be used before show time in high stakes politics and caucuses, but by the contender himself.
There is no one who doesn’t know that. Including you.
After all, Cruz is the smartest guy in the room, right?
I know CNN is aware, because they avoided it entirely, no matter the appearances of Carson’s travel plan.
Carson really had me fooled.
