The Obama administration will reportedly unveil a proposal next week that would place a $10 tax on each barrel of oil produced in the United States. The proposal is part of the President’s budget for fiscal year 2017.

The $10 oil tax would raise an estimated $32 billion, and the money would be used to fund an ambitious program of investments in clean energy, mass transit, high-speed rail, self-driving cars, light rail, subways, buses, and much more. The investments could total $300 billion in new spending.

The proposal would help bring America’s infrastructure into the 21st century, and provide “a clear incentive for private-sector innovation to reduce our reliance on oil and invest in clean-energy technologies that will power our future,” according to a White House memo.

it would be a permanent slush fund for leftist unions, government workers, and crony-capitalists (who of course would kick back a suitable amount to the Democrat Party)

No it wouldn't. It would just destroy the US oil industry.

We would import more foreign oil and stop drilling for oil in the US.

It’s funny but it seems you are the only one that is even bringing this up.

Why isn’t this brought up more often? Everything is worse and the debt is climbing.

This happens every time gas gets cheap. Some suit in that weird little town in Maryland gets the idea: “Raise gas taxes! Hey, maybe they won’t notice.”

Not this time. This won’t go anywhere.

Taxing our OWN energy sources? I would understand a $10 tariff on every barrel imported from OPEC (which would VASTLY encourage further development of the oil patch in the US), but to slap $10 on every barrel extracted within this country, seems to be a totally regressive idea.

We just gave our terrorist enemy $150 billion to buy nukes and missiles, and he wants to tax us to build more wind mills? We are so screwed... again.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think even the jerks in congress will be willing to help Obama pass this bill. Just about all the voters would be up in arms if they try.

I propose a $10 per barrel tax on imported oil, the proceeds to fund new generation nuclear, fusion research, and the balance to retire the debt.

Why not a $10 tax on each barrel of imported Oil? Even Trump has talked about this. A tax on OPEC oil would allow us to develop and support domestic oil production and jobs.

Obama’s Tax would be like Carter with his New Oil and Old Oil approach in the 1970’s. He really wants to destroy the domestic oil industry for his buddies in the ME, his loyalty is to Saudi Arabia.

As usual Obama has it ASS backwards.
