I read the headline only as I don’t have the time right now to get into it, but sounds to me as though Germany is a lost cause.

Baloney. Germans, myself included in that descent have a lineage that goes back beyond the Roman Empire. Genetically, my ancestors were in the Neander Valley. Neanderthal.
Germans are indigenous and definitely NOT immigrants.
