"What If the Second Amendment Were Repealed?"

If Dems, Rinos, and libs in general tried to repeal it, they would start a civil war.

Answer to Bonus question: Cruz. But that was a giveaway.

We should be so lucky. Two sides? Try hundreds. Like Lebanon or Yugoslavia times 100.

This is an idiotic article. I don’t care if it was written by someone on “our” side. There are some things that shouldn’t be mused about. Like whether a second civil war would be fun. Or whether cannibalism is cool. Repealing the 2A is a topic that decent people avoid musing about due to the all too predictable tragic results.

What difference does it make? The criminal class in DC (Read: Legislative Branch-Executive Branch-Judicial Branch) that take an oath to support and defend the Constitution don’t follow it anyway.

It is just clickbait.

He does not make any serious proposals, just asks people to send him twitter messages.

The country will split if the left continues its assault on the rights of citizens. I have no doubt about that. I will not be around to see it and I prefer it were done absent violence but I doubt that would be true.

There are two avenues for the "right to bear arms" to be eviscerated, and to be clear I am not advocating for that in this article.

That'll be reserved for another article, eh?

Read the preamble. They are absolute, if they are not, they mean nothing.

There would be a civil war to make the last one look like a sweet sixteen party.

Exactly. The problem with the liberals' stance (well, there are so many, but let's consider this one) is that they would be a basically unarmed group trying to forcefully disarm the armed group. It is not going to end well, for them.

The Preamble to the Constitution does not have legal standing, it is not law. The Constitution is law. As such the Constitution and the Amendments can be changed. In some cases it will only take a decision by the Supreme Court to change the meaning of virtually anything in the Constitution. A future court may decide that the Heller decision was wrong and decide that the Second Amendment to the Constitution allows fire arms only to those in well regulated militias. That then would be the law of the land.

> “Who won Heller for us?”

A narrow majority of one person on the Supreme Court. Keep that in mind with the next election. ANY Demoncrat President after 2016 will change that balance and the 2nd Amendment will be taken away.

Bonus question: Who won Heller for us?

Not sure what you mean. The five justices in favor were Thomas, Scalia, Alito, Kennedy and Roberts.

It is not selective at all.

You must take into the consideration of the vernacular— the accepted, specific speech of the day.

Take for example the West Side Story song, “I feel pretty.” It has a line that states the singer is pretty, and witty, and gay. In today context, that would seem odd. In the context of the time, it makes perfect sense.

We do not update our language in the constitution. We must understand the meaning of words within their context.

History has shown uniformed services do very poorly in that type of conflict.

Becoming an instant believer will not provide them with the skills, practice, prior service experience, nor the determination to prevail.

John Roberts should be a quick confirm.

In 1995, while clerking for Chief Justice William Rehnquist, I and my two fellow law clerks asked the chief whom he thought was the best Supreme Court lawyer currently practicing. The chief replied, with a twinkle in his eye, that he thought he could probably get a majority of his colleagues to agree that John Roberts was the best Supreme Court advocate in the nation. This week, the president announced his intention to nominate John Roberts to be a Supreme Court justice.

snip-

In November of 2000, I had spent the past year and half as domestic-policy adviser on the Bush campaign, and was part of the team assembling the lawyers to help litigate Bush v. Gore. We needed the very best lawyers in the country, and I called John and asked him to help. Within hours, he was on a plane to Florida.

snip-

As an individual, John Roberts is undoubtedly a principled conservative, as is the president who appointed him. He clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist, worked in the Reagan White House, and served as the principal deputy solicitor general in President George H.W. Bush’s Justice Department. But, as a jurist, Judge Roberts’s approach will be that of his entire career: carefully, faithfully applying the Constitution and legal precedent.
