You should post this on the other thread where the Cruz supporters are ecstatic that Me-Gyn apologized to Ted as she has concluded he never supported legalization. I’m sure this was just a poison pill tweet /s/

Ted Cruz, December 16, 2016 - CNN

And speaking to CNN's Jake Tapper after the debate, Cruz even indicated he would back deporting those who came here illegally -- another proposal he has usually rebuffed.

"I would enforce the law," Cruz said, explaining that he would first deport criminals without proper papers. "Federal immigration law provides that if someone is here illegally and is apprehended, that they should be sent back to their home country."

Cruz was splitting supporter of Amnesty to stop the Gang of 8 amnesty first bill.

Here's what was said about Cruz when the immigration bill was actually being considered in 2013:

Ted Cruz looms large over comprehensive immigration reform

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has shaped the view of Republican leaders on immigration reform, and his sway with grassroots conservatives will make passing comprehensive legislation significantly more difficult.

Cruz scored a victory in the battle for the hearts and minds of his party over the weekend when Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) backed away from the Senate's overhaul of immigration laws.

GOP leaders, after President Obama's reelection last year, sounded more open to moving broad legislation on immigration, but their interest in doing so has waned as Cruz's power has grown.

"There are going to be a lot of Republicans who don't want to be on the other side of Ted Cruz," said Rosemary Jenks, director of government relations at NumbersUSA, a group that advocates for reduced immigration flows.

Will he now claim the tweet was a lie, to prop up the ‘poison pill?’

Hmmm, sounds a lot like this 2013 tweet from Trump:

"Congress must protect our borders first. Amnesty should be done only if the border is secure and illegal immigration has stopped."

However, Cruz has never supported amnesty. It appears he supported legalizing some of the illegals as long as they could never get citizenship. But Trump was specifically talking about amnesty. So even in this case, Cruz had the more conservative position.

Thank you for posting this, springwater. The follow up tweets are a good example of why I believe that Cruz may have a little trouble getting re-elected to the Senate- let alone carry Texas in the nomination for president.

Even if you hold that Cruz changed positions it is not as extreme as once supporting partial birth abortion, single payer healthcare, and assault weapons bans.

This is not hard to figure out.

Cruz supported legalization in the past. He can support and/or change any position he wishes.

The problem is that he calls anyone who brings it up a liar and so do his supporters, because they believe him.

Cruz will be lucky now to finish 2nd in Iowa and will not win a 1st place finish in any state thereafter...including Texas.

Yeah, I know the polls now show him with a slight lead there, but a LOT of things will change in the next month as people understand they have to pick a winner.
