The country is falling apart and it’s your fault
The Matt Walsh Blog ^ | January 28, 2016 | Matt Walsh

I'm not one to pander to my audience. You might hate my guts -- and maybe you'll hate it even more after you read this -- but hopefully you can at least give me that much.

And although I run the risk of alienating literally everyone with this piece, I hope you'll give it a read anyway, because I'm trying to put into words something I've wanted to say for a longtime.

I think it's time for accountability. I think it's time we stop blaming the decline of our country on shadowy, vague, abstract groups of people, and start analyzing our own role. Here's the reality: if we were better -- if we made good choices (especially in the voting booth), if we paid attention, if we were more rational, wise, prudent and thoughtful -- we wouldn't be in this mess. Our culture is being destroyed not by outside forces, but by us. We have been in the process of committing a very drawn out act of mass suicide, and our final blow to ourselves might be this next presidential election.

The sad and horrifying reality is that we may well be looking at a Trump-Sanders or Trump-Clinton election. Out of all the available match ups, as it stands right now, we are on target to select the absolute worst ones for ourselves. We are on a path to give ourselves a choice only between one tyrant or another.

But, frustratingly, many people insist this isn't our fault. Even folks who aren't Trump/Sanders/Clinton supporters will often rationalize for those who are. They'll say "people are angry" and "the establishment is corrupt" and "DC is blah blah whatever" as if any of these statements actually qualify as an excuse for people who would CHOOSE to vote for the most corrupt, tyrannical, anti-freedom, anti-Constitution candidates in the whole race. But this is how it always goes. I remember having the same conversations back in 2008. "You can't blame Obama voters, they're just fed up with politics as usual and yadda yadda blabber blabber."

They're fed up with politics as usual so they vote in one of the worst politicians in the history of this country? Stop acting like that makes sense. Stop acting like American voters are children who can't be expected to think rationally. Stop excusing what is inexcusable.

There is no excuse. We do this to ourselves

You seem to be under the illusion that voting for a president will change something. Until the behemoth fedgov bureaucracy is dismantled and the power taken back by us via Congress, nothing will change. Congress gave away our power and continues to do so. Voting for a figure-head is irrelevant.

Sometimes it seems like folks on FR think most voters are just like them and I beg to differ.

If conservatives were anywhere near the majority of the political right, then I seriously doubt we would continue to have the likes of Boehner, McConnell, McCain, Graham, etc *inflicted* upon us term after term after term...

Conservatives are, for now, a rather small minority within the political right. I *hope* conservatism is catching fire, but it certainly does not appear to be doing so in this election season. We still have much work to do to grow conservatism. Hence: Instead of the govt we need, we will continue to be stuck with the govt we deserve for awhile longer - perhaps generations.

I’m in favor of a poll test. Something that delineates between people that understand the Constitution and basic civics and those that do not.

Problem solved.

But there is no overwhelming evidence that the poster is the author.

I heard a lot of complaining. I heard no solution.

Thank you! Management training has taught me that grousing about BS in your department gets nothing done. Offer up the solutions, and you'll be the kingmaker.

That is because there is no human solution. We’re way past that. It just has to play out.

hmmm,
what I got form the article was a reminder that we all are daily involved in this God inspired USofA and DAILY have choiceS in it’s future or end.

we all daily have room for improvement in self, involvement in community/country or we would not be drawing breath, if i understand Christianity and USA founding and values.

Not all individuals, but "We, the People" have become reprobate and set against God.

Boy, have you nailed it. And, when God is ready, the FBI, BATFE, Postal Service Police Force, IRS law enforcement folks and all military branches of all kinds are going to be in for a big surprise. They'll laugh at this comment, I know. But, it's okay.

God, this is so right. Most of you spend your time attacking people who have the same hopes for this country’s future . You want illegals stopped at the border, good paying jobs with American companies, lower taxes, less government, but instead of picking on the big government candidates you sit and attack those who may have the same goals but a slightly different way to get there. There’s hate, vitriol and rudeness. FreeRepublic has turned into a Free for all for insults and attacks.
This forum has been ruined and I wish some of you had that much enthusiasm to taking out Hillary or Sanders.

They’re hoping the moniker ‘tyrant’ will stick. Too bad they don’t really understand what they are stating.

In the 19th century they had a term for the guy who wrote this crap—scribbler. Scribblers were not given the right to vote until much later. In the 19th century only land owners or property holders had the vote. Boy did we screw up.

I agree public education is a big part of it. I spent 16 years in the government indoctrination camps. And I resent being forced to pay for them upon pain of losing my home, it is as bad as the Muslim dhimmi tax and very comparable. But how many people are homeschooling their children (as I am) in response? The public is still at fault for sending their kids to the camps.
