He was given little chance of survival.
But, the little elephant has rallied thanks to round-the-clock care from staff at South Africa's Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage, and the friendship of a dog called Duma.

What a sweet story. I had a German Shepherd once, long ago. My favorite dog. I love them. I like elephants too; that’s why I’m a Republican, lol.

I can’t get any of the links to load on my tablet, but I didn’t know elephants rejected their young. They are family oriented and all the females usually take care of the young. Why was this one rejected? Glad it turned out ok for the little guy.

It is possible that because Ellie has digestive issues the family thought she would not make it after a few days and she would slow down the herd.
But you are right it is highly unusual for elephants to abandon calves regardless of condition.

Awww! Let's make an commercial about it. What's the biggest pet door in Amazon's inventory?

The abcess/hernia/milk problem might be the problem, or the mother died, and none of the other cows were lactating. Elephants will adopt an orphan if they can feed it.

Sweet story.
But looking at the pics...he is laying on a mattress.
How will that work out when he gets big?

Hey, that’s a funny as hell commercial, especially if you’ve ever seen how normal sized horses react for the first time to a mini horse...

Thumbelina in the new Amazon commercial is hilarious. Mini horse meets normal-sized horses. They shun her.
Owner feels sorry to see her alone on the range and orders a special mini horse door so she could come inside the house and keep her owner company.
That was sweet, too!
