That didn't stop McCain (and many FReepers) from pointing out his lifetime ACU rating which was sophistry for anyone who had watched McCain's career.
Tell them that it’s just an;

Cornyn (TX) has a conservative rating as well, and he is a RINO sh*t. These politicians get very good at constructing a veneer of conservatism and vote just at the right time on the right issues to appear such, but then cave when the Dems tell them to.
Scoring legislative votes and positions can be tricky and the details should always be consulted. Some senators are notorious for going right for the year or two before reelection. Nevertheless, the ACU score is generally considered reliable as a relative measure of conservative voting.
The ACU has been compromised in the past several years. It makes a lot of Republican members appear way more “Conservative” than they actually are.
FReeper Auh2orepublican has devised a system of adding up several different ratings systems from the right and left to come up with a more realistic figure of where they are.
Rubio is quick to avoid certain votes that would register his credentials. He skips a lot, so that he can stay on record for the votes he does take as being conservative. But the ACU is not the best indicator, IMHO. If you take ALL votes, then Rubio dropped overall from 80% to 79% and that doesn’t show his votes on MANY conservative issues, just his average of the total votes he cast.
On the other hand, Cruz is 96% and he votes regularly, with a lot more total votes. To be 96% with all votes together, then that is a better indicator over all. Rubio wants to play the game by his rules. He is a liar, a cheat, and if elected will be a democrat.
Almost every Republican Senator voted for TPP because Free Trade is the conservative position and protectionist taxation that’s passed on to the consumer is the union/lib position. Cruz was swayed to switch to no based on the fear-mongering being put out, but most weren’t.
ACU ratings have been weird in recent years. I don’t necessary agree with DJ that people have people been rated too well. A few years ago I was shocked at how LOW they were rating people. Basically they haven’t been consistent with their criteria, unless I’m to believe Congress has become sctizo. For a while they weren’t even posting the ratings in a format that could be easily read. Currently they don’t show what the votes they’re basing it on are, as far as I can tell. They should rehire whoever was in charge of doing the ratings 15 years ago. Fail.
Other ratings have major problems too, this one touted by some freepers had really wonky scores, “Liberty Score”, They have Maxine Waters rated ahead of some Republicans so clearly they have issues with their criteria. You gotta look at several of them and see how Congressmembers score in relation to each other.
Rubio generally scores well with most, as far as I recall. Paultards tend to score well too, despite holding dangerous non-conservative ideas that must not get voted on a lot.
I wish I had the time and skill with spreadsheets to just make my own. Haha.
As for Rubio I have some issues with him. I don’t trust him on immigration and he’s a bit neo-con-y. But I think he’s obviously significantly more conservative than McCain and Romney, horrible candidates from the left of the party. Not to mention better than Jeb. As the highest polling “GOPE” candidate I know he’s enemy #1 around here but I’d be fine if he was nominated. I’m for Cruz though.
ACU sold out years ago when the very eh, flawed David Keane ran it. They once held up their ratings for a year to get a 100% rating for a guy in Florida (forget his name he didn’t win anyway). They are useless.
