I was repulsed when I saw the front page of last Tuesdayâs paper ("Ricketts joins governors calling to halt Syrian refugees," Nov. 16). I then read that Gov. Ricketts has joined a host of other governors asking the administration not to permit Syrian refugees into the United States ("Ricketts joins governors' letter to Obama on Syrian refugees," Nov. 20). A quotation from Ricketts letter said that âNebraska is a welcoming place for families seeking a home to live, work, and raise a family...â
Apparently his words are only true for people of European ethnic descent, like myself. If you are of Middle Eastern descent, specifically Syrian, his request suggests that our state is not âa welcoming place."
Ironically, we had just welcomed Dr. Abla Hasan, who was also quoted in the article, and her son to our church the previous Sunday to hear their reflections about the refugee crisis. They had nothing but good to say about living in the United States and in Nebraska. I can only imagine how painful Ricketts request was to them.
The additional comments by Rep. Ted Cruz of Texas were equally distressing in the context of Hasanâs visit to St. Mark's on the Campus. The ignorance his remarks reflect regarding Islam is frightening. At our gathering on Sunday, the mercy reflected by Hasan was much more in keeping with the care the God of Abraham has for human beings than the words and attitude of Cruz, who claims he is a Christian and a fellow worshiper of the God of Abraham.
I can only think that our Lord Jesus is far more pleased with faithful Muslims who join faithful Jews and faithful Christians in extolling the steadfast love and mercy of God, and who open their hearts and their borders to those who are suffering. How can God be pleased with people of any religion who close off their borders, and their hearts, to those who need a home?
Father Jerry Thompson, St. Mark's on the Campus Episcopal Church, Lincoln
Father J. Thompson doesn’t appear to be up on current events.
That’s what really sucks about this. A lot of churches are getting huge amounts of money to “process” (whatever the hell that means) these refugees. The Catholic Church has received millions of taxpayer dollars. But I doubt if they are housing these people in their cathedrals.
Some of these refugees will kill some Americans in a terrorist attack much like the one in Paris. It’s not even a question of when. It will happen within the year. What will this ‘pastor’ say then? Will they be collateral damage in the war for multiculturalism and ‘compassion.’
Y’know, “religion” is going to be the death of this country.
The U.S. is at war with an enemy who are all Islam adherents that use the tactic of Taqiyya to lie to and overtake its enemies. They’ve already proven how much damage they can do to other European countries by concealing terrorists within the refugees and that they intend to overtake whole nations using this tactic. Add to that it doesn’t take that manyof them to deal a lot of damage and they suck up tons of welfare so that people who’ve actually paid into the system for decades can’t use it. So HELL no. The fact that you wrote this article suggests that you are probably a Muslim sympathizer or worse yet a Taqiyyan lyin’ Muslim yourself publishing propaganda.
Father Thompson appears to be a useful idiot. Useful to liberals and Muslims (both groups want to destroy America).
He apparently is a contributor to the concept that the Episcopal Church in America is going to hell in a hand basket, and doing their best to speed up the process.
Dear Father, unlike you, Jesus truly can see in peoples hearts and knows their reasons for why they think the way they do. He sees the fears the people they have of Islamic Jihadists in their midst.
They have read the accounts throughout history of those that misread Islamic jihadists intentions. Don’t gamble with the lives of those that have made your parish what it is.
Liberals like this remind me of the movie “Mars Attack”. Once the aliens (Muslims) start killing everyone, they will blame it on our lack of hospitality. After many more deaths it will be blamed on our lack of cultural sensitivity to the aliens (Muslims)...
Extolling their Muslim god's love and mercy is limited to only Muslims. The rest of those mentioned by the good Father Thompson are to be killed, raped, sold into slavery, or extorted a fee to be allowed to survive to see another day if they follow the word of their god.
What a back woods idiot!
20 trillion dollar national debt. When the economy collapses I’ll point to our immigration policy as one of the many self-inflicted wounds done in the name of ‘decency’ by the Democrats. Would someone in DC please break out a calculator before they write the checks!
There will always be those “grievous wolves” mentioned in Acts 20:29.
you two faced pimp....
Father Thompson has a bad case of white guilt, which seems to be adding to his stupidity.
FUFJT
Catholic Charities and other Catholic agencies are getting at least $87 million per year to “resettle” terrorists in the U.S. The Episopalians, Lutherans, etc., are on the gravy train as well. And since they are all Marxists, eager to punish the West by helping the invaders, the money is pure gravy.
Also finding will allow some of them to keep supporting those who come here illegally
Open my jackboot to their derriere.
The ignorance Fr Jerry Thompson displays regarding aggressive Islam is appalling as well as frightening.
First off, we do NOT worship the same God.
Secondly, God is a jealous God and hates worship of idols (other “gods”).
The Fr should know that above all.
