In his role as Norad commander for Alaska, McInerney dealt with more Russian fighter jet incursions (which he calls "bear penetrations") than anyone else in the world.
So McInerney knows how to tell innocent from hostile incursions by foreign fighter jets, standard rules of engagement of foreign fighter jets, how to read radar tracks, and the other things he would need to know to form an informed opinion about the shootdown of a foreign jet.
Yesterday, McInerney told Fox News - much to the surprise of the reporter interviewing him - that assuming the Turkish version of the flight path of the Russian jet is accurate, Russia wasn't threatening Turkey, and that Turkey's shoot down of the Russian jet "had to be pre-planned", as the jet wasn't in Turkish air space long enough for anything other than a premeditated attack to have brought it down:

"The United States believes that the Russian jet shot down by Turkey on Tuesday was hit inside Syrian airspace after a brief incursion into Turkish airspace, a U.S. official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity."
Disagree. I believe the US knows exactly where the jet was hit - "U.S. officials" are just refusing to say.

It was definitely preplanned by the Islamist Turkish government...and Russia would be justified in acting accordingly.

Isis has no air force, so why shoot down a jet?

To protect your own assets in the area.
In Turkey’s view, ISIS is their asset in the area.

Erdogan is a punk.
He pulled a stunt that he and the twinkies in DC didn’t think through.
Now his stupid stunt is going to bisect NATO. And Putin HAS to react, or he looks weak.
And in the middle east, if you are weak, you are dead.

With targeting information provided to Erdogan by Emperor Barky, the shoot down was obviously pre-planned.

Suppose it’s so. Why not further suppose that it was anticipated by Putin who decided there was so much to be gained politically by sacrificing a couple of jets and pilots.

And obuma was right smack dab in the middle of it...
Obuma is supporting Turkey and Putin knows this, that's why he came out the other day and made the comment that he got stabbed in the back...
I think Putin should invite obuma to the Kremlin for dinner...one way ticket type of entertainment...

I don’t believe descriptions of either the Turks or Russians. Even with the most favorable set of circumstance for the Turks, they had to think this out in advance. The supposed incursion into Turkish airspace lasted shorter than the time of flight of the weapon used. That means even if the Turks shot when the Russian entered Turkish airspace the weapon impacted after the Fencer was back in Syria airspace. Extremely bad form.

I disagree. I think Putin has the gravitas to extract an apology from Turkey’s president and probably the prime minister and probably find a way to extract a groveling apology from the Turkey’s regime.

The armed warplane of a foreign nation repeatedly violating your airspace without permission. The Russians never stood for it; karma’s a bitch.

You have laid out good reasons not to believe the descriptions of the Turks, but, other than the usual "commies lie" type of blabbering so common on this site, what reasons do you have to not believe the descriptions of the Russians? Not trying to be argumentative. I was just wondering if there is some particular flaw in their account.

I see where Turkey has announced they will not be entering Syrian airspace. I wonder why? sarc

According to the Russian becuse of the limited range of the missile, the F-16 had to enter Syrian air to get missle lock, shoot and depart.
