Top U.S. Air Defense Commander: Turkey’s Shootdown of Russian Jet “Had to Be PRE-PLANNED”
Zero Hedge ^ | 27 Nov 2015 | George Washington

Posted on 11/27/2015 12:53:16 PM PST by amorphous

In his role as Norad commander for Alaska, McInerney dealt with more Russian fighter jet incursions (which he calls "bear penetrations") than anyone else in the world.

So McInerney knows how to tell innocent from hostile incursions by foreign fighter jets, standard rules of engagement of foreign fighter jets, how to read radar tracks, and the other things he would need to know to form an informed opinion about the shootdown of a foreign jet.

Yesterday, McInerney told Fox News - much to the surprise of the reporter interviewing him - that assuming the Turkish version of the flight path of the Russian jet is accurate, Russia wasn't threatening Turkey, and that Turkey's shoot down of the Russian jet "had to be pre-planned", as the jet wasn't in Turkish air space long enough for anything other than a premeditated attack to have brought it down:

The Russians insist they never entered Turkish airspace. I don’t think that is true, based upon the balance of information from both the Turks and the Americans. I also don’t think a 17 second incursion is cause for shooting down an aircraft.

PREPLANNED? No, it was more sinister than that. It was PREPREPLANNED! Perfidious bastards.

To borrow a phrase from Ross Perot:

That giant sucking sound we hear are the European countries rushing to partner with Putin in the power vacuum created by Barack Obama’s “leading from behind” in the fight against the Islamic savages.

The airspace in question is a Turkish wedge, bordered by Syrian territory on three sides. Because of this, I’ll bet incursions over it are relatively frequent, but very, very short (as was this one). So the F-16s would have had to be waiting in ambush. It would not surprise me at all if the Russian plane was hot down over Syrian territory, even if the missiles were fired over Turkey. It would have been that close.

Edrogan is a dangerous a$$hole. How the Turks trust him is beyond me.

I think it was possible to shoot from Turkish airspace, and even shoot while the Fencer was in Turkish airspace. Turning out, post shot, and not spilling into Syrian airspace could be pretty tough.

...and have his pilots shot at while parashooting and during a rescue mission?

Think about that. We have a saying around FR that if you start taking flak, you must be getting close to the target.

Seems only one country has been getting the flak from both the ground (Egypt) and air (turkey). The same country that seems to be kicking the most ass right now.

As far as the “commies lie” themes around here, did the Russians ever stop lying about the Malaysian airliner their team shot down over the Ukraine. The Russians tried to blame that on the Ukranians, to include maps and fake radar pictures. Maybe people feel that The Russian government lies because they do.

I only know this: Nothing n.o.t.h.i.n.g is to be ruled out when dealing with Russia. There is an end game here. Russia's communists haven't wavered from their goals in a hundred years. That can't be said of the US, which has been "remade" in the last 6 years.

As for your original question -- I don't think anyone at the top in Russia would blink an eye at incurring casualties if there was a "good enough" reason to so.

A chart of action provide by Russia shows their jet 1KM outside Turkey's border. From the time the jet was hit, I estimate if traveled about 2 - 3 miles (25 - 30 sec) until impact, based on what I could make out from the video. With an accurate map of the crash site, the location of the jet when it was hit could accurately be determined.

Based on a scale using the 1KM closest approach, I'd say the Russian account of where the missile first hit the jet is pretty much dead on based on where they show the crash site to be and based on the time elapse from the video - provided by the rebels.

If the location of the crash site is accurate, as provided by the Russians, it would put the point of missile strike approximately 15KM past the Turkish finger of land that protrudes into Syria, even if the crew had overflown it.

A major foul IMO. Certainly no risk to Syria proper but perhaps to their oil bootleggers. Is it something worth starting WW3 over - hell no. In fact not something worth a dad not going home to his kids over. The bootleggers were breaking international law and Syrian law. The mission was justified - the shoot-down wasn't.

Isis has no air force, so why shoot down a jet
These jets are knocking Turkeys illegal oil supply. It's the old follow the money argument I think.

Apart from the fact that Russia admitted its jet strayed into Turkish airspace, good post.

Nothing n.o.t.h.i.n.g is to be ruled out when dealing with Russia.

Except that Russia will act in good faith and deal fairly. Many are all to quick to rule that much out.

What was it Reagan said? Trust but verify???

So let's trust the Muslim dictator of Turkey - he's our man! If Erodgan can't do it, nobody can. That's pure claptrap from your boy king Obama - someone certainly not to be trusted.
