All classes on campus have been cancelled for the immediate future at Western Washington University because someone posted "hate speech" on social media yesterday.
President Bruce Shepard sent out a message to students and staff today, saying that someone posted "hate speech" online "targeted at Western students of color."
"I need to be VERY clear here," he wrote, "we are not talking the merely insulting, rude, offensive commentary that trolls and various other lowlifes seem free to spew, willy nilly, although there has been plenty of that, too. No, this was hate speech."
Thus, all classes have been cancelled.
President Shepard said he could not say what the messages said because "of an ongoing law enforcement investigation."
The person who posted the hate speech may or may not be a student at Western Washington University. There is also "no threat to general campus safety."
However, "as a campus, we will come together to demonstrate our outrage, to listen to each other, and to support each other. So, I have decided to cancel classes today in order to provide that time."
President Shepard added, "Have no doubt: this is not a capitulation to those I described as trolls and lowlifes. We are going after them."
Just one scenario: A student is facing a big test the next day that he is totally unprepared for. What to do? Oh, yeah: have some "hate speech" posted on social media to have the test postponed.

This takes stupid to a new level. If the board of directors has any brains, this idiot is toast.
All students are to go to their safe space until further notice. That is all.

There are no indications from the President of the University that any physical threats were made, or that there is a concern for the safety of the students - it sounds like someone posted something that hurt someone's feelings, therefore, classes are cancelled for the day so that everyone at the university can come together and express their outrage. This gets more ridiculous by the day.
Exam week?
President Bruce Shepard trying to build up credit points for when BLM starts calling for Admin. heads. These universities have for years created this monster and now the chickens are coming home to rooooost.
When black lives matter thugs went into the library and screamed at white students, the school president in that case said the protest was a beautiful thing.
If you get students who cannot study or attend class because of fear of assault, that would be a basis to demand their money back due to a threatening atmosphere.
