I went to Krispy Kreme for my free Veteran's Day doughnut and coffee this morning. Then I tipped the server the cost of the items. Just a thought, but it would be good if veterans who are able would "pass it on" to others if you take advantage of the extremely generous and patriotic businesses that participate in celebrating Veteran's Day. Also, thanks for your service to all of my fellow veterans!

I used to always do that on det in Key West. Many of the restaurants would give us a “locals” discount. It went right back into the tip. I dont do the free meals thing on Veteran’s day because they are usually a mad house. There are plenty of good deals for military the rest of the year depending on where you live.
Publix is giving Veterans 10% off today.
You need a VA card, or DD Form 214, or a mil ID.

My wife and I built our new home almost completely from Lowe's and figure we saved $15,000 from the discounts buying our materials there.
We're both veterans, are retired and live on a farm raising beef cattle. So today is not so much a "holiday" but just another day of work around the farm. Chores, maintenance, and the cows don't seem to care whether the government has given us the day "off". :-)

Georgia’s new drivers licenses have an American Flag in the upper right corner that signifies “Veteran”. It is also printed in Red at the bottom.
To get a Georgia Veteran’s license you have to have been inducted in Georgia, though and provide a certificate of eligibility from the Georgia Dept of Veterans Affairs. I like mine because it is free of cost.
I don’t do the vets day deals because I can only eat so much.
There are some middle and high schools in the area who are fixing vets breakfast then putting on patriotic shows. I really wanted to attend one but I couldn’t get to sleep last night so I won’t be doing much of anything today.
Home Depot gives 10% discount. But charges a 10% restocking fee for everything you return.
I spent a small fortune for years at Home Depot before I knew they were giving vet discounts. And I mean a small fortune.
Fast-forward to Florida. I went to Home Depot and they said they gave a 10% vet discount but reluctantly and only if you were a disabled vet. I got a different story every time I went there and finally they just gave the 10% discount to all vets but it was like pulling teeth. I just gave up and went to Lowe's here because they are better stores locally and they cheerfully honor your service by giving the 10% discount without reservation. I haven't been back to Home Depot since.
I stopped at Napa Auto Parts last night, and got a discount for being in uniform. It never hurts to ask if a business offers a military discount.
A family member told me that Steak N Shake has some kind of free item today. Have no idea if they serve breakfast all day long but it is some kind of skillet dish.

There's an Applebees in the big city here but they suck. I've gone there twice since moving here and both times the sirloin steak and shrimp dinner was below par. Overcooked steak from what I requested and some sort of sauce over the shrimp that was like the rubber on a car tire. I won't give them a third chance to do a poor job.
I don't know if any other eating establishments in the big city here have veteran specials today or not. I don't read the local newspaper or watch the local TV station. And I live out in the country on a farm and and have to drive a good ways to get to town. So I will eat lunch here at the house today like I usually do. One of the Angus burger patties from the freezer from one of our own steers. Mmmm good. Better than any restaurant.
